Re: Who here likes Classical Music?

Anybody know of any good compilations to look into? I've been playing the classical station at work and have been digging it a lot. I'm not really sure what has been playing other than some songs from Swan Lake and the Fantasia theme. I dig Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart from what I have heard. I don't know where else to look for stuff, though.

I don't know of any compilations really but I when I took a music appreciation class my freshman year of college I was really digging Bach's Organ Fugue in G Minor and Berlioz's Symphony Fantastique.

There's a recording of bach's Sonatas and Partitas on ITunes played by Nathan Milstein. Here's one of the songs on there on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waxat-_tRH8 . He's a pretty awesome violinist.

And there are tons of vids on youtube. I usually look for violinists and find songs from there. Some good ones to search for are

        Joshua Bell
        Jascha Heifetz
        Mischa Elman
        Nathan Milstein
        Yehudi Menuhin
        Ithzak Perlman

I would recommended checking out Joe Hisaishi. He's my favorite modern composer.

For some reason classical music has always been very intimidating to me considering the music has been around for a long damn time and there are thousands (if not millions) of different performances on different instruments. Its tough to find a place to start compared to other genres such as say the blues or hip hop. Here is what I have been enjoying so far:

I always liked Nutcracker Suite, and also Beethoven's Fur Elise and Moonlight Sonata. Thats about as deep as I go with classical though.

Yeah he's great, he does all the music for the Miyazaki movies.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)
