Re: Who listens to Christian music

nice topic...good to hear a lot of us have the same likes in this genre...

i'm in my mid-late 30's, so i grew up on michael w. smith, petra, amy grant, with rich mullins as my all-time favorite artist.

i like chris rice, delirious (their new song "my soul sings" is really good), jars of clay, third day, john elefante, "you are" by sammy ward, caedmon's call (older stuff), geoff moore, matt redman, mercy me, pfr-eager, steven curtis chapman (original stuff), switchfoot, and 4him.

i like some of the modern worship stuff out there, but it's getting saturated. my church made the transition from the older/traditional worship style to a "blended" service (with guitars, drums, keyboards, etc.). we sing a lot of the older stuff, but we sing it faster and more lively.

i appreciate you guys sharing here and not being afraid to do so...

Red, Needtobreathe, Skillet, Anberlin, Thousand Foot Krutch, Decyfer Down, Manic Drive, Day of Fire, Sevenglory, Switchfoot, Mainstay, 12 Stones, and a few others.

Going to see Red, Skillet, and 12 Stones next month... definitely looking forward to that.

Re: Who listens to Christian music

I pretty much listen to all Christian music. Grew up listening to the late Keith Green, Amy Grant and MWS. Now I'm still big into Michael W. but now listen to Matt Redman, Jars, Audio Adrenaline, Chris Tomlin and other Praise and Worship artists. Nice to see that kind of music gets play here!

So when you guys listen to Christian music, what do you listen for? Comfort, knowledge, relaxation, peace? Just curious.

personally, for a change of pace / worshipful attitude.

i listen to all kinds of music, and though i am a devoted christian, i'm not a stiff. i like john mayer, coldplay, u2, marc cohn, david gray - to name a few (don't have my ipod in front of me). i've got an ipod with over 1600 songs - probably half are christian.

I look for comfort and a change of pace. I bought the WOW 2008 Christian hits albums and it's pretty good.

I've been meaning to check out Ivoryline.

And no, not all Tooth and Nail bands are Christian. I know off the top of my head that The Classic Crime has Christian members but does not consider themselves to be a Christian band. Tooth and Nail definitely has some good bands though (Classic Crime included). Check out Since October, their Tooth and Nail debut just came out last month.

Right, they are no longer classified as a Christian record label, but the bands have Christian members. Whether or not the band is classified as Christian, if they are Christian, it will come out in everything they do. There is still problems with the mainstream not taking a Christian band serious, you won't be played on the radio, etc, so less people will hear your music. So some don't want to fall into that niche.

Yeah, there's a good quote on that by Jason Wade, the lead singer of Lifehouse (another band with Christian members that definitely has a Christian influence in their lyrics):

"My music is spiritually based, but we don't want to be labeled as a 'Christian band,' because all of a sudden people's walls come up and they won't listen to your music and what you have to say."

I love all of them, as well as Andre Crouch and Larnelle Harris. The Winans song "Tomorrow" is one of my favorite songs, ever.

Ha, yeah, it was looking like a Tooth & Nail thread because of all the bands they have that are considered Christian.

I didn't know half of these bands were considered Christian, like Anberlin, Chevelle, etc. One band I didn't see listed was Relient K, I believe they are Christian.
