Lol, I guess I'll wait until tomorrow when the load is lighter. I am kind of hoping that the server goes offline today, it could be one of the big internet snafus. Imagine the Cracked article, lol.

I don't understand it either. It's supposed to improve "productivity" according to the FF developers. I was on their forum (as well as others) asking to have the feature at least have an enabled/disabled option but they said it's not possible. Bull, as it was in the earlier builds (up until Beta2, IIRC).

I will continue to use my old browsers as I have bookmarks for a reason. It's too intrusive if you ask me.

You should be able to disable it this way (haven't tested it yet... haven't been able to d/l it yet! )

1. Enter <code>about:config</code> into the address bar and hit Enter.
2. Press the "I''ll be carefull. I promise!" button. (Because you will be.)
3. Enter <code>browser.urlbar.maxRichResults</code> in the Filter field to reach this preference.
4. Set it to your desired number of suggestions.

That disables the ENTIRE addressbar lookup feature. So if you want to type "esp" and see "www.espn.com" show up, it won't. Unless you have inline autocomplete, which is so 8 yrs ago.

We tried to get the developers to exclude bookmarks from the areas it looks up but apparently they know better about our productivity than we do.

Thanks though... that may be a solution for some but not for me.

Revert the "AwesomeBar" with Oldbar
Firefox's smart location bar (a.k.a. "AwesomeBar")—which drops down a suggestion list of destinations as you type into it—is extra verbose and extra-tall, since it includes both web site titles and URLs. If you're missing Firefox 2's classic one-line drop-down look, the Oldbar extension can revert the "AwesomeBar" to something less awesome—or at least something that looks less awesome.

lol already tried it. All Oldbar does is minimize the results to a one line format instead of the two line format.

I was hoping that was the savior but alas, it wasn't. It still searches and displays your bookmarks.

Appreciate the help but I've searched the 'net and there is no way to currently avoid it short of not using Firefox 3.

Anyways, no I am talking about 2.0. If you look under Tools you should see Session Manager.


Yes you can save whatever sites you were viewing, all tabs intact as well. I see what you are saying, you don't want to save. I am saying, saving is an option, but you don't have to. If I were to close firefox right now, and load up, I'd start with my homepage. But all I'd have to do to get back to this page is go to Session Manager and load my last session, which would be this one; no saving to do.

Of course, if I am looking at a fe pages for say a research project and I want to stop and do something else for a while without having a lot of tabs open, I could go to Session Manager and just save that session and close it all up. Then I could just bring it back whenever I wanted with no hassle. You can always delete them if you didn't want to have a bunch of saves.

I don't have that option in my drop down. It just skips from Page Info, to Clear Private Data to Options. I am running version 2.0.0.14 - what about you?

Isn't session manager a part of tab mix plus or some other extension??

Session Manager is its own extension and it's awesome.

Also, whoever thought up this clunky "AwesomeBar" should be taken out and shot. Let me know if anyone finds out a way to disable this ****.
