    3. Hockey

Basketball? Isn't that the sport that comes around every March and is not heard from again until next March?
I respect your love for hockey, but no hockey fan should really be making NBA jokes.

This is hilarious, and yes im grilling him about LA and he's making every excuse in the world for the Lakers. It's funny but in this case he swears the L is better than the Magic/MJ/Bird years, he swears the NBA is more popular than what you hear, and he feels the reports are all bias.
Baseball isn't as popular worldwide? LMAO, basketball is finally showing up as a blip on the map but it still can't hold a candle to baseball outside of the states. Hell, most of the non-white players in the MLB are from out of the country probably b/c of kids like you're lil bro thumbing their nose up at baseball. It is actually a shame the number of African Americans in the MLB these days, but that's another topic completely.

Can I even comment on today's NBA being better than the Magic/MJ/Bird years? No offense to the young Piston but does he really think Tayshaun Prince would've made the dream team? You might have to pull out some film for him.

This is the kind of stuff I deal with out here. I told him this particular site was independant and he feels they arent reliable.

Im not trying to convince him anymore, im basically on the phone laughing at him at everything it says.

You can't get better free comic relief than this, but i always try to research things im talking about if i can.

LOL. Your friend is hard headed. It's one thing to be a huge fan of a sport but it's another to blatantly ignore facts.

I wouldn't say love for hockey. I enjoy the Penguins because they're local and an exciting team to watch, but don't watch much hockey outside of that. Of course with my busy schedule, I don't have much time to watch full sporting events anyway so PGH teams are really the only sports I try to watch. Put it this way, I love baseball and the Pirates, but haven't watched a full 9 innings in months. Just been too busy with work, the wedding, family events and negotiating for a new car which I got last week - bought a Lexus GS 350. I love it!

Anyhow, the NBA is non-existent to me so hockey trumps it - both are way behind football and baseball though. It might be because Pittsburgh doesn't have an NBA team, but there's nothing interesting about the NBA to me. March Madness is cool, but only because I usually have a pool and money on the tourney. Even then, I don't watch that many games. I just check espn.com to see how I'm doing in the pool.

U'm no one plays baseball over there in Europe. In parts of Asia yes, but bball is very popular in most of Europe and even South America. Most non-white baseball players come from Central America.

The revenues that professional soccer brings in around the world probably doubles the amount made by the 4 major sports leagues in North America COMBINED.

To be fair, the Dream Team comparisons to today's team is flawed due to the fact that the 1992 team team was the first team. I mean, it came at probably the second best time for the NBA (the best being a few years prior IMO) but whichever year it started was going to be the best.

For example, while the 2004 US team sucked, if the 2004 team would have been the first year of professional players, it would have obliterated all opposition because Shaq, Kobe, Kidd, TMac, KG, Ray Allen, Karl Malone, and Reggie Miller (along with AI and Duncan) would have been on it instead of sending out the Tim Duncan, AI, and a college All Star team we did send. Whichever the first team to be sent to the Olympics was going to be the best. It just happened that the first team coincided with the height of NBA talent.

The revenues that professional soccer brings in around the world probably doubles the amount made by the 4 major sports leagues in North America COMBINED.
I'd hope so. You're comparing 6.some billion people to 300 million of which a large amount contribute to soccer.

According to Forbes about 3 months ago, there are 4 soccer teams worth over a billion dollars. Man U leads the way at $1.8 billion, if that gives you any idea.

Re: In terms of Sports which is the most popular in the US

Im glad i asked because It was good information for me myself to know, so i learned something today.

Guys its my bro but he's older than me, which is the killer. I completely harrassed him because of how ridiculous he was acting.

"Kobe is the greatest to ever pick up a basketball, better than Magic, better than Wilt, better than Jordan, better than Duncan"

"Jordan would've never did well against the Celtics"

"Basketball is the biggest sport in the world next to soccer"

                      'Who watches baseball?"

"The NBA makes more money and the fan base hasn't shrank over the years"

"Come on, the NBA players make more money though"

Yes before you ask, he was dead serious too.

Each time i asked for proof, he couldn't present me with any. I gave him all of the facts you guys gave me, and he blew all of them off as bias.

I was laughing so hard my co-workers afar off thought i was in an argument with someone...

Im not kidding, this really happened.

Yeah, just messin with you. I figured it's b/c there's no NBA team in PIT. Even the big college hoops team is up and down in terms of being a contender so that makes sense.

True but it's a very recent thing that basketball in other parts of the world have been worth mentioning with the NBA. There are a handful of places that have been solid but most places are still mostly using Americans to field competitive teams. It's getting better as the popularity grows but baseball has had it's own life for some time now outside of the States.

I agree with that but I still look at the names on that team compared to even the possible names on a team in 2004 and don't see much of a comparison. I guess the question to you would be do you think a team of the best players in the NBA in 2004 could beat the Dream Team (hypothetical of course, so there'd be some duplicates and I'd go by their talent at that time in their career)? I personally don't think they'd have a shot.
