    Top 5:
    5) Horrorpops - Kiss Kiss Kill Kill

If you're into pyschobilly/rockabilly, I definitely recommend this one. You wouldn't think Sweden would produce a band who knew rockabilly quite this well, so I was surprised at how great they are. The vocals are retro, 80s female artist vibe.

    2) The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely

This is everything I expected their debut album to be - full of country, blues, and rock n roll with tons of great hooks and fantastic instrumentation thrown in for good measure.
Wow, I never really expected to see anyone mention the Horrorpops on here. Saw them open for the Dropkick Murphys and I was pleased enough to start listening to them. Quality band

And I wasn't a fan of The Raconteurs at first, but this new album is just fantastic and one of the best I've heard in a long time

I basically stumbled onto the Horrorpops. I was looking for some modern rockabilly bands and saw that they were one of the more better reviewed rockabilly bands, so I took a chance and was definitely rewarded - some kickass songs on that album, for sure.

He's really good. I never heard of him until Nivek talked about his album and I'm glad I checked him out.

Not only the best album of 2008 (thus far, but I don't see that changing anytime soon), one of the best albums I've heard in a LONG time. Classic.

For those that were wondering, the new Old 97's record is pretty solid. Much better than "Drag It Up" in my opinion. The first couple tracks are solid. The middle of the album gets a little murky, but the closing five tracks are outstanding. "Early Morning" and "The Easy Way" would fit perfectly with the mood from "Too Far To Care". Awesome tracks. "Here's To The Halcyon" is a great Rhett Miller track that would work with "Satellite Rides". "The Color Of A Lonely Heart Is Blue" is the best song that Murry Hammond has done. And the closing track "The One" is fantastic. It's worth it for those five songs alone, though the rest of the album is pretty solid.

As far as my top five goes...it would look like this:

                                5. "Vampire Weekend" - Vampire Weekend. I didn't want to like this one, I really didn't, but it's outstanding stuff.

                                4. "Blame It On Gravity" - The Old 97's

                                3. "Brighter Than Creations Dark" - Drive-by Truckers. Awesome album, with enough variation to make the number of tracks ok. Not as good as SRO or "Decoration Day" imo, but very good work.

                                2. "When Life Gives You Lemons You Paint That **** Gold" - Atmosphere. Slug and Ant are fantastic, and there is a confidence in this album that isn't boastful or fake. Very good album.

                                1. "Stay Positive" - The Hold Steady. This is darker than "Boys And Girls In America" but more powerful I think. Where BAGIA was anthemic and dealt with the euphoric sense of the late teens/early 20s party set, SP deals with the aftermath. There are five or six tracks on this record that stand up with anything they've done yet. As Craig Finn states in the title track, "the sing-alongs songs'll be our scriptures".
