For the record, Wale >>> J. Cole.

I also don't think they are that much alike either. Really at all.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

The way I always looked at it was that Wale talks about society as a whole. With songs like "Even if its Wrong", "The Kramer", "Shades", "Contemplate", "The War" etc he's putting out songs that everyone can relate to, and that talk about problems globally.

      J. Cole on the other hand takes you into the day to day shoes of a person, and the struggles they go through. "Can I Live" "Farewell" and "Show Me Something" are great examples of this. He speaks more on a specific person or event that occurs and how they react to it. Two completely different styles, one isn't necessarily better than the other, just comes down to preference.

And the reason I myself attack Wale for joining MMG is because I figured as soon as I heard the news that it would result in the Wale who put out Ambition. Ross isn't like Jay. J. Cole waited forever to get Jay-Z to put a verse on his album, and as far as I can tell, there's no pressure on J. Cole to change his style. Ross appears to be on everything however, even though he doesn't have a lyrical gift, which in itself drags a track down. We see what the change in scenery did to Wale. He (imo) is straying too far from his roots to have the fame that Ross has, and is willing to sacrifice good music in the process.

Meh...I like both Wale and J. Cole. They came out at the right time IMO. Only difference to me is Wale is pretty good at making some club bangers and I haven't heard much in the line of bangers from J. Cole. Even "Cant Get Enough" doesn't do it for me much in terms of some club music.

As far as substance goes, they are both pretty intellectual which is why I dig em.

I just started listening to his stuff. Downloaded the new mixtape and Codeine Cowboy. I'm open to all forms of hip-hop, we'll see how it goes lol.

Gave Blue Slide Park a full spin tonight. Pretty much what you would expect from Mac. Nothing more, nothing less. Some good music to vibe to. His projected numbers are very impressive for an independent artist. I realize you can't put much into the numbers side of the game anymore but 100k+ independent is straight hustle. Respect

edit: One negative that stood out as I was looking at the tracklist, only 1 track out of 16 is over 4 minutes long.
