I was going through my Erykah Badu tracks (started with the new Rocketjuice single) and remembered this little nugget. This was my 1b favorite on Stankonia. That album was the first album I downloaded off Napster and pretty much the only thing I listened to during middle school.

Probably one of my favorite Andre verses.

That Dre verse had been in my head the past couple of days for some reason. This album was so damn good.

Okay, that's my favorite J. Cole track. Admittedly it's because of Missy and that classic Timbaland/Missy beat. I miss that sound. Who did that track, Cole or Missy? Damn that's hot, I'ma be playing that all day.

Cole. There's only 2 or 3 songs on his album that aren't produced by him.

Everytime I see Danny Brown I just think of Big Red from the Five Heartbeats.

I think many of the older guys don't want to associate themselves with the radical youthful, positive, up-and-coming hip-hop artists/movements (A$AP Mob, BasedWorld, Black Hippy, Danny Brown, OFWGKTA). These guys are transcending the game, and I think many fans of the genre see staples of their culture (soulful hooks, the "boom bap" instrumentals, the baggy clothing) wither away, or "die", and look at what was once getting play on the radio stations. They compare it to what they play now, and dismiss anything that bears any similarities to some of the recycled crap on the radio today.

There are a lot of untalented, wannabe, copycats out there, and Lil B is not one of them. It's no mistake that he's come as far he has.

I really don't like arguing over anything that's completely subjective anyway; what you enjoy is up to you.

Who do you listen to, by the way?
I think it's easy to hide behind that whole, "old timers just can't connect to this new generation" argument and toss what people are saying aside. I like Lupe, Cole, Hamilton (talk about weird for weird's sake), Drake and Nicki, B.o.B, Childish Gambino, CuDi, etc. All of these guys are different from what you described as "old school" (boom bap, soul beats, etc.) with the exception of Cole who is a throwback.

Not everyone here likes all of the above, but the point I'm making is that I guarantee every single person who "hates" Lil B in here has new school artists that they love. So, it's not a generational thing, it really comes down to talent, and people feeling like he lacks it. Or, similarly some feel he may have minimal flashes of talent at most, but fanatics make it seem like he's the greatest ever which in turn creates the backlash.

Every loyal fan of a artist hype their guy up as the best ever..

Exhibit A- Lil wayne for example.

Females my age and younger says Nicki is the best female rapper ever...I pay that no mind because I was listening to the likes of MC Lite as toddler.

I for one dont pay any mind or take offensive to the "OMG Based God you're the greatest" "OMG this is so Based" "Thank you Based God" "Rare Classic" and etc....

Its nothing but lingo that he creates and his fans embrace..

No different than saying "this go ham"
