    Initial first listen-through impressions:

The album isn't going to make many non J.Cole fans into fans of his. It's a good album but first listen to was nothing incredible. No real standout tracks (though it took me quite a few listens to Sideline Story to like that one a lot as well). I also hadnt listened to any of the songs he had released.

It's a good album. Will take a few spins to see if its anything more than that (plus the deluxe edition songs).

Also, "Let Nas Down" is an awesome song. That may be the one standout track for me, actually.

Is it streaming anywhere? I feel less dirty that way. Lol.

I gave in. like BNG, I'm getting an actual physical copy when it comes out like I will with the Gifted.

I'm on my first listen but I did skip ahead and listen to Forbidden Fruit because that "(Feat. Kendrick Lamar)" was too much for me. Dissapointed that Kendrick doesn't actually have a verse on it

That was definitely one of my biggest disappointments with the albums. Was hoping he'd have a full verse.

Thru 3 playthroughs so far, I can tell this won't get much airtime in the whip this summer.

Had a feeling this would happen after dropping Sideline Story in 2011 SMH.

I've listened to it 4 times since I downloaded it, and each listen, time just flies by. I for one love the album, may have been better suited for a fall/winter release, but great nevertheless.

I preordered Born Sinner, days ago, but now seeing that Cole himself has put it up for us to listen to it, I will just go ahead and listen to it now.... I would have waited, otherwise.

Agreed. I liked it. There were only 2 duds in the entire album IMO (The ones where the tempo was unbearably slow and the choruses made up 75% of the song).

Most of the time when he really rapped I enjoyed it. Didn't mind the singing either (when he attempted it. At least he knows the pitch level he's good at).

Edit: In other news, just heard this song. Herb killed it.

Kanye is more intelligent than people give him credit for or are willing to acknowledge.

Just went to rap genuis to look up the meanings for a couple of lyrics in New Slaves. Learned something new. Was not pleased to learn it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think I've heard people say that Kanye isn't or wasn't a smart guy.

But isn't the usual knock on Kanye (may be old at this point) that he isn't that great of a lyricist?

Kay, I worded that wrong. I meant sane, as intelligence does not always = the conventional perception of sanity. But he is more sane in the conventional sense than people give him credit for is what I mean.

I think crazy (and its various synonyms) are thrown around to much, but that's going slightly off-topic.

                              @Cyros

That wasn't necessarily what I was getting at. I've never heard that argument before though (Finding myself echoing Pac's earlier thoughts )?

DukeC, funny how Lil Herb really got famous from probably the worst song I've hard from him, "Gangway".

Anyway, very rare Jay Electronica verse:
