Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
I find it interesting that you list Kanye as a not even close winner of Artist of the Year, but you don't think his album is one of the five best.
Did he put out a lot of other work that was unrelated to the album this year that I missed? I know a large portion of the Good Friday tracks ended up on the album...did I miss others?
1. I really don't like it more than any that I mentioned (it would prob rank 6th or 7th)
2. Good Fridays pretty much ruined the albun for me b/c ALL of the songs I like were leaked before it came out so once I ran them into the ground that was that.
I voted him artist of the year b/c of all the artists I dig, he was the most visible, and he put out/was on the most tracks and he pretty much killed them all.
It really wouldn't have been fair to list anyone else considering most of them only had LPs and not as many features as Ye did.PSN: DoubleLGetsBusy

I've seen a few people say this. He may be a "rising star" but he is anything but a rookie or newcomer.JayElectronicaBluElzhi2PacTheNotoriousB.I.G.ReksSc arfaceFashawnJeruThaDamajaComment

Actually, thats how budgets work in the music industry...You have your newcomer budget, middle ground artist and ur superstar budget and it all depends on sell numbers/what you do on the billboards...Last edited by Jukeman; 12-22-2010, 07:20 PM.Comment

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
EVERYTHING (no matter how little of it is) has been beyond quality release wise. I know I didn't hear of him until he was on Fight Night Rd 4 (whenever that came out). I consider him a rookie/newcomer b/c he really hasn't gotten much light until this year.
In my eyes none of these new cats are even close to where he is lyrically.
But I totally disagree about him getting exposure until this year. I think it all depends on when you first heard him. He got a lot of buzz and respect back in 2008 when he was actually releasing music. Lol. I have been listening to him for a year now. He got some extra hype when he signed with Roc Nation, but he's had a strong following for 2-3 years now.
But if you are a big fan of him, check this out. It's a guy from our hip hop group of facebook, dissecting his verse on that recent Jazzmatazz joint he just released. The stuff Jay talks about, just right over my head.
I dont think he will ever really blow up, because is too intelligent to ever appeal to a "mainstream" crowd. The only people who can appreciate him are the realest hip hop heads.
Idk, he's with a major label now, until he reach a certain number (like bat attempts in the MLB's) he's a rookie...

So what were we supposed to call him in 2007? An Embryo? He sure as hell hasn't been a rookie for 3 years.Last edited by CabreraMVP; 12-23-2010, 02:48 AM.JayElectronicaBluElzhi2PacTheNotoriousB.I.G.ReksSc arfaceFashawnJeruThaDamajaComment
