At least you lived up to that title.

I know it's kind of weird and while I dig Ye's album a lot:

      1. I really don't like it more than any that I mentioned (it would prob rank 6th or 7th)

      2. Good Fridays pretty much ruined the albun for me b/c ALL of the songs I like were leaked before it came out so once I ran them into the ground that was that.

I voted him artist of the year b/c of all the artists I dig, he was the most visible, and he put out/was on the most tracks and he pretty much killed them all.

It really wouldn't have been fair to list anyone else considering most of them only had LPs and not as many features as Ye did.

I've seen a few people say this. He may be a "rising star" but he is anything but a rookie or newcomer.

Don't think you need to "hope" anymore. I thought he confirmed, finally, that it will be released [for real, this time] in February?

Idk, he's with a major label now, until he reach a certain number (like bat attempts in the MLB's) he's a rookie...

Actually, thats how budgets work in the music industry...You have your newcomer budget, middle ground artist and ur superstar budget and it all depends on sell numbers/what you do on the billboards...

EVERYTHING (no matter how little of it is) has been beyond quality release wise. I know I didn't hear of him until he was on Fight Night Rd 4 (whenever that came out). I consider him a rookie/newcomer b/c he really hasn't gotten much light until this year.

In my eyes none of these new cats are even close to where he is lyrically.

Oh Believe me, he is as intelligent MC as there is. He has a few joints where almost everything he says goes right over my head, his knowledge is ridiculous. He's got a nice flow and delivery, but that's not what draws me to him. It's his content. The guy is might be the most intelligent MC I've ever heard, even better than guys like Jeru the Damaja.

But I totally disagree about him getting exposure until this year. I think it all depends on when you first heard him. He got a lot of buzz and respect back in 2008 when he was actually releasing music. Lol. I have been listening to him for a year now. He got some extra hype when he signed with Roc Nation, but he's had a strong following for 2-3 years now.

But if you are a big fan of him, check this out. It's a guy from our hip hop group of facebook, dissecting his verse on that recent Jazzmatazz joint he just released. The stuff Jay talks about, just right over my head.

I dont think he will ever really blow up, because is too intelligent to ever appeal to a "mainstream" crowd. The only people who can appreciate him are the realest hip hop heads.

Jay Electronica is not a rookie. He released one of the best mixtapes in a long time, almost 3 years ago. He's been a legit MC since 2007. He isn't a rookie. I dont care how much sales hes had or whatever. Rookies are newcomers. Guys that have been in the game for 3-4 years are not rookies. It's disrespectful to call him a rookie.

So what were we supposed to call him in 2007? An Embryo? He sure as hell hasn't been a rookie for 3 years.

Anyways, do we have any Elzhi fans in here? He is the closest thing to a 1994 version of Nas or Big L. He's definitely in a class of his own right now. This is a joint I just downloaded from his first EP in '98 and just uploaded to youtube:
