Yeah i've had to open up my horizons lately as well just so I can find new music I like.

Lyrics is a big thing for me tho, I can't stand guys like Lil Wayne or something anymore if it's just random BS. One of the biggest reasons Eminem is still my favorite rapper because I can sit through his songs and listen to a story, and nothing really repeats besides the chorus or something.

You can spout off random BS and be lyrical (DOOM, Canibus, Slim Shady) . Those two are not mutually exclusive. Conversely, one can tell a story and convey it in a basic, boring manner (Tupac, Immortal Technique, J. Cole).

I admire any rapper's ability to tell a story through song, but the biggest draws to me have to be flow/cleverness. I, like 1Rose, have a huge appreciation for lyricism, but more so for the ability to arrange words in a way that sounds good than actually telling a story.

That said, those who can bring both together are the true greats.

Yeah, I didn't mean that those guys were always basic and boring. Some (most of Pac's) of their songs, I can't listen to more than once at a time, though.

I actually dig all three when they're in their respective "zones".
