Environmental theme? Blah....They could've kept an atomic age theme what with WMDs and the threat of self destruction even greater today then it was in the '50s.

Oh well....I'll catch this by other means.

Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 23% on the Tomatometer. 46 fresh reviews, 97 rotten reviews. That's usually not a good sign.

I wouldn't go completely by Rotten Tomatoes...I thought it was a decent movie...

"Decent movie" doesn't get me too excited, especially considering my appreciation of the original film. You are right about Rotten Tomatoes, but that many negative reviews will get some people thinking.

I never saw the first one, so I can't compare it.

Well usually when Rottentomatoes gives a movie less than 60%, it's pretty much guaranteed for me that the movie won't be to my liking. Anything above that there seems to be room for leeway (spelling?).

I noticed 3:10 To Yuma didn't make the "better than original" list. I never saw the original-I'm going to have to now. I thought the 1991 version of Cape Fear was equal to the 1962 original.

The original is on at 8PM on TCM tonight. Van Heflin was damn good in it. In fact I recommend anyone to watch/record all the Van Heflin movies tonight as i've seen all except one of them and they're all damn good especially Patterns.

EDIT: Hmm I guess the people in charge of that remakes site aren't such huge movie mavens. They didn't list The Maltese Falcon (1941) better then the original. Then again, Bogie and Co. owned that movie so much that people forget it's a remake!

I think the Mr. Deeds remake was better than the original. It was actually a movie made back in the 1930s originally. It's pretty good, though I prefer the new one bettter.

Thanks-I set up to record 3:10 To Yuma tonight. Managed to squeeze it in with The Greatest Game Ever Played & the Klitschko-Rahman fight.

I haven't seen the remake yet the oringial was great but I'm most excited to see the Wolverine Trailer.

                          Did'nt anybody catch the trailer?

Its rare I see a Keanu Reeves movie in the theater.

Reeves said he didn't like the idea of remakes, classifying this movie as a "retelling" of the original, or words to that effect. I would have liked to see him in the Billy Jack remake. I wonder why that proposed project fell apart?

Saw the movie earlier; didn't expect to see the Wolverine trailer. Wasn't expecting much from the movie but now I'm interested; the trailer was nicely done. Liev Shrieber (sp) looks pretty good as Sabertooth; didn't know they'd be fitting Gambit into the movie.

Day the Earth Stood Still was okay - not good, but think it was a little better than the 22% on Rottentomatoes would indicate.
HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period
