Are you sure? The first two, were nearly scene to scene identical from the book with very minor changes. Columbus added nothing, no interpretation and it upsets me that JK didn't get her choice of Terry Gilliam to direct.

I'm not trying to disprove you or even argue. Without going into specifics, after watching the movies, I was continually saying "That's different from the book." Though the movies are enjoyable, they are no where near the "magic" that the books produce. I think every person that has enjoyed the movies but not read the books should really treat themselves and read the books.Comment

Though the movies are enjoyable, they are no where near the "magic" that the books produce. I think every person that has enjoyed the movies but not read the books should really treat themselves and read the books.
- At the start of the novel, Professor McGonagall in her animagus form had been observing Vernon Dursley prior to her meeting with Dumbledore and Hagrid. While this scene was omitted from the film, it was referenced when McGonagall voiced her objections in leaving Harry in the Dursley's care.
- In the book, Nicolas Flamel's name is spelt Nicolas. In the film, an "H" is added spelling it "Nicholas Flamel".
- Harry states in the second movie that the snake at the zoo was a python. The snake at the zoo is said to be from Burma. In the novel, it is a boa constrictor from Brazil, not a python from Burma.
- Hagrid tells Harry about the death of his parents on the island in the sea. However in the film, Harry asks about this at the Leaky Cauldron.
- The character Peeves is omitted, although a scene was filmed for him, but ended up being cut, even being omitted from the deleted scenes.
- In the book Harry first met Draco Malfoy in Diagon Alley while shopping and later learned who he was on the Hogwarts Express, where Harry chose not to befriend him after Draco insulted Ron Weasley. In the film, both these events occur at Hogwarts before the Sorting.
- Sorting was done alphabetically in the novel, and out of order in the film. Also, only Hermione, Malfoy, Susan Bones, Ron and Harry are sorted in the film.
- Harry learns that all Slytherins go bad from Hagrid in Diagon Alley. In the film, he learns it from Ron during the Sorting ceremony.
- In the novel, when Harry buys his wand, Hagrid is with him. But in the movie, Hagrid is not present, having gone to buy Hedwig.
- Hedwig's name is never mentioned. The same goes for Mrs. Norris
- In the film, Harry, Ron and Hermione see Fluffy in the Forbidden Corridor after their escape from Filch and Mrs. Norris. In the book, Neville was also with them.
- The scene where Malfoy challenged Harry to a duel, but had actually tricked him by tipping off Filch was omitted. Instead, Harry, Ron and Hermione accidentally go to the Forbidden Corridor.
- In the book Percy Weasley is using glasses and in the film he does not use them.
- When Harry and Hermione get detention, it is because they left the Invisibility Cloak in the Astronomy tower while sending Norbert to Charlie Weasley. In the film, they get detention because Draco Malfoy saw them in Hagrid's cabin past curfew. Ron is also with them in the film, and gets detention instead of Neville.
- On the way to the Philosopher's Stone, each obstacle was created by a teacher. This is not so described in the film. Also, in the film Quirrel's and Snape's rooms are omitted.
- In the novel, Harry, Hermione and Ron, each seized a broomstick and kicked off into the air to chase the Winged Keys, while in the film, only Harry flew with a broomstick. The same is for the PC game.
- The Hufflepuff-Gryffindor Quidditch match, where Snape is the referee, is omitted in the film. Instead, Harry hears Snape talking to Quirrel when he is walking to the Mirror of Erised.
- In the novel, Harry sees his parents and his grandparents in the Mirror of Erised, but this was changed in the movie to where Harry just sees his parents.
- In the novel, Oliver Wood meets Harry after coming out of a Charms class. However, in the movie, Wood comes out of a Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson.
- In the movie, when Harry, Ron, and Hermione fall into the Devil's Snare, Hermione and Harry escape by relaxing, and Hermione saves Ron by making a fire. But in the novel, there is no "relaxing" part, and Hermione saves both Harry and Ron.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Teaser Trailer
The first book is much more detailed, and they changed a lot of stuff... It's not nearly as close as you seem to recall.
Not to mention - you just posted a fairly large list of changes which proves it's not verbatim, by the very definition of the word: "in the exact words : word for word"
Still a great movie, though.Comment

Plus the changes I posted were basically someone arguing over the fact well he wore a blue shirt in that scene in the novel, but in the movie it was green so it is now a horrible representation of the original.Comment

Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Teaser Trailer
I liked the movie until the last 30 min.
SpoilerThe best part of the book was the Battle of Hogwarts and the ****ing director took that out of the film. I remember reading that part and thinking that it will look incredible in the movie. Watching the students battle the deatheaters. I was looking forward to it and when it didnt happen..I had the WTF face on for the rest of the movie. The director's reason for leaving it out is that there is a fight scene in Hogwarts in the final book and he didnt want repetition.
Add to that that they eliminated Dumboldore's funeral which would have given his death more weight and probably only added 2-3 minutes to the movie.Comment

That'll be in the next movie. It's gives them a great setup for the beginning of the movie, to really get people into it.

SpoilerI doubt it. The conversation at the end of the movie takes place after the funeral. Also the director stated that he felt the final scene in the movie was more powerful than the funeral would have been.Comment

Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Teaser Trailer
I'm not trying to argue, but you seriously are looking for a copy of the book in the movie which is nearly impossible. I found a list of changes from the first movie compared to the book and the changes are minimal and have little to no effect on the movie itself.

Also, I can't ever remember saying I was looking for an exact copy of the book in the movie, would be rather impossible, but anyway, kind of a silly argument.
I wish someway the movies could have included Peeves. I always imagined him looking like the lab. henchman from Princess Bride.Comment

SpoilerI don't doubt it - I think the final scene for this movie was a better ending; which is why I think he pushed it instead, and will put the funeral to start the next movie. It brings back what happened in the last movie, and it gives a great opening for everything to start rolling. Gets the emotions started up from the very beginninh.Comment

Direct Quote from Director
Many were shocked to see the omission of the Battle at Hogwarts and Dumbledore's funeral. Can you explain why these scenes were left out?
DAVID HEYMAN: The reason why we left out the Battle at Hogwarts is because we have a battle at Hogwarts in the Seventh film and we are avoiding repetition. Dumbledore’s funeral was something that I really loved and is a fantastic part of the book and part of me would have loved it in the film. But we decided that while we loved it that what we came up with was the right ending for the film that we had made.
The Funeral isnt coming. There is a ton to cover in the final movie and the one thing that has been consistent about the movies is they always start just like the books.

SpoilerYour thoughts are just as much speculation as mine. Nowhere in his quote did he say they weren't doing the funeral; he only said it wasn't meant for this film; it could very well be in the next one.
Obviously neither of us knows, though. We'll just have to wait and see - but I have a feeling he was saving it.

SpoilerMy only problem with that is why wouldnt he say that. The question states that people were shocked the funeral wasnt included in the movie. His response is he thinks his ending is better. If he planned to save the funeral for the next movie wouldnt he say "We are saving it for the next film" or "Just because its isnt in this film doesnt mean you wont see it"?
Nope, he says "I like my ending better." Its still speculation no matter how you look at it but based on his words, It appears that he has no plans to do the funeral. Espcially since he already used the scene after the funeral in this movie.

Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Teaser Trailer
Just saw this movie on IMAX and have two thoughts:
1) Extremely disappointed with the lack of 3D - only the first 10 or 15 minutes, and it wasn't even utilized that much anyways. Made IMAX almost pointless.
2) INSANELY disappointed at how they handled the ending. I thought the rest of the movie was fine, very good. But the ending .... freakin' sucked. Wish they didn't deviate from the book's ending. Bah ... left me with a really, really bitter feeling about this movie. BAH!Comment

Re: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Teaser Trailer
I too was quite disappointed with the ending.
SpoilerEver since I read the Half-Blood Prince and seeing how the fight in the Ministry was handled in Order of the Phoenix I was looking forward to how the Battle at Hogwarts would play out. I for one would not have thought it repetitive if a fight at Hogwarts happened in back to back movies seeing as I thought both fights are pretty important to the plot of the books.Comment
