    Must Have Albums (Of the 60s, 70s, 80s & 90's)

Simply put, I wanting to do a major overhaul to my iPod in terms of making sure all my information (song title, band, album, year, album art, etc) is listed correctly but in the process wanting to add albums from great stuff of the past.

I have no Beatles even though I like some songs but would love to add atleast one or two albums. What would you best recommend me?

I mean, it could be music like that or The Who or Zeppelin or heavier like Priest, Maiden, etc. Hell, it could be Derek and the Dominos, Allman Brothers, or even part of the grunge genre, like perhaps the best Soundgarden album.

Basically, if you think it's MUST HAVE then post it. I'm willing to atleast give it a good listen.

Would you say that these are albums you could listen to from start to finish and not get sick of it?

But I'll definitely check it out.

        For The Beatles:

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
        The Beatles
        ("The White Album")
        Abbey Road
        Let It Be

Can't really go wrong with any of them anyway (I'm a Beatles homer), but those are my four favorites.

            Five best Beatles albums are:

            - Rubber Soul
            - Revolver
            - Sgt Peppers
            - White Album
            - Abbey Road

My personal favorite is Abbey Road, but I've seen strong arguments made for all 5. It really depends on which Beatles period you enjoy the most. I've got all the albums and never grow tired of any of them.

There's a WHOLE lot of great music from the 60's and 70's. I'm not sure where to even start... but if I were to recommend one single album, I'd say Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On". Didn't get it the first time I heard it, but after it got stuck in my car CD player, I soon fell in love. It introduced me to Motown, and after learning that most of those guys were jazz musicians at heart, I got turned on to Miles, Coltrane, Satchmo, Bird, etc. Any album that opens the door to so much music gets a lot of points in my book. And "What's Going On" is still my favorite album to this day.

Lol, its weird seeing someone saying they are a Beatles homer. Being obsessed with the greatest band of all time and one of the the greatest phenomenon's in the history of modern humanity makes you an intelligent person, not a homer. Having said that, each Beatles album is its own experience, its own feel, its own world. You have the raw instrumental talent and unprecedented sound of the early albums, that same sound with an evolutionary twist in Help, further development in Rubber Soul to the psychadelic in Revolver to their magnum opus in Sgt Pepper to their left over Sgt. feel but its own fit of greatness Magical Mystery Tour to the most diverse album ever created in the double album "The Beatles" (the White Album) to the raw sound in the dysfunctional Let it Be (check out "I've got a feeling", Across the Universe, Dig a Pony, etc) to back to one final masterpiece in Abbey Road. There are abour 5-8 skippable songs in the entire Beatles catalogue and 99 percent of them are from very early albums. In short, you cannot go wrong.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Amazing out of so few posts, the range of music has varied.

I think my goal is to listen to one full album per night, without skipping just to atleast say I've giving it a listen. If I don't like it, then I don't listen again. If I do, then I've got another album to say I like.

I figure it can't hurt to do it.

                    Tonight: Soundgarden's "Superunknown"

Heard alot about it, but want to check it out for myself.

Definitely! I used to get into arguments with my buddy over the best BR album. I was convinced it was Against the Grain, he thought No Control.

I want you to go ahead and pick 25 songs you would want BR to play if you had to have them live. It's probably the most impossible thing you will end up doing.

I see someone mentioned Led Zepplin. They are a good band for what they were, but I equate them to something like Family Guy or Carlos Mencia. Sure alot of the jokes are funny and you enjoy it, but alot of the things they've done are just copying (blatantly) from other people who did it better. Just for fun, check out Led Zepplin's song "Moby Dick" and compare it with Bobby Parker's "Watch Your Step." The riff is nothing short of identical.

LOL - impossible. I did see them live once in Atlanta. It was the craziest show. The lyrics were coming 100 miles a minute, and the entire audience was singing along WORD FOR WORD. Absolutely amazing fanbase.

Well I just made it through night #1 of my album per night plan, and I have to say already that I'm extremely pleased I decided to do this.

Superunknown, despite hit or miss on the first six tracks for me, really was excellent from Black Hole Sun (#7) to the end.

Outside of BHS, Spoonman, Limo Wreck and The Day I Tried To Live are my favorites.

Keep the album ideas coming. Please.
