Because it is the collection of songs that one should have from those time periods?

What are your favorite songs off that album?

Mine would be after one full listen: Layla, Bell Bottom Blues, Have You Ever Loved A Woman, and Key to the Highway

Currently listening to: Pearl Jam's "Ten".
      Top three are probably:

      Anyday
      Layla
Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad

        Two I would add:

        1970s
Live at Leeds - The Who

        American Beauty - Grateful Dead

Both are really good front to back listens for me. Coincidently, both were released in 1970, 12 years before I was born.

        Late add:

        1990s
August and Everything After - Counting Crows

I couldn't have made it back in the day without this CD. This band to me was what I imagine Bob Dylan was to my father's generation. He just spoke the truth, and I identified with what he was saying lyricly.

Maybe worthwhile suggestions. Mainly subscribing to this thread for future reference.

The Clash - London Calling (70s)
              Rush - Moving Pictures (80s)
              Elliott Smith - XO (90s)
Jimmy Eat World - Clarity (90s)
              Radiohead - The Bends (90s)
              Weezer - Pinkerton (90s)
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (90s?) <-- not really sure what decade
              Rolling Stones - Forty Licks (compilation, 60s - 00s)

Should've gone for some Alice in Chains to complete the 90s Seattle stuff.

That's definitely coming, maybe as soon as tomorrow. I want to listen to them and STP.

If I had to choose between Dirt or Jar of Flies, which would be my best bet?

Honestly, all I have of theirs is Dirt but its definitely one of my favorites from the 90s. The vocals create a really cool contrast against the music.

I'm interested to hear it. I think I'll end up liking that more than Nevermind and possibly Ten.

So far, out of the albums I've checked out I'd rank them as such:
                      1. Derek and the Dominos - "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs"
                      2. Soundgarden - "Superunknown"
                      3. The Who - "Who's Next"
                      4. Pearl Jam - "Ten"
                      5. Nirvana - "Nevermind"

Ten may be one of the most underrated albums of all time.

Dirt. Easily. Jar of Flies is good, but Dirt is one of my favorite albums by anyone.

Eli, when you listen to Dirt, give Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger a spin as well.
