The past season finales at least gave a sense of direction or a cliffhanger or something that made me really look forward to the next season. This one didn't do that at all. It just seemed like filler.
Leonard leaving for four months wasn't a cliffhanger?

Not really. I wouldn't be surprised if he's back in the first episode of next season. I don't see how that storyline could change the show at all. The way it came out of no where and moved along so fast makes it seem to me like they ran out of ideas and just did that for the hell of it.

Hopefully I'm missing something and next season comes back with a bang, but minus a couple of gems this season wasn't near as good as the first few.

He prob is back in 1st episode of next season(like I said, it's similar to when they went to the arctic). Though maybe they'll surprise us and when Leonard comes back, he finds out that everyone hates each other or something(or the group completely fell apart since he left) and he has to go on a mission to fix everything.

Yeah, but do you really think he'll come back and nothing at all will have changed? Something is going to come out of him being gone for 4 months, or that's just terrible, terrible writing.

I hope something comes out of it, but I'm not sure if I think that there will. The fact they let Raj's relationship overshadow it and ended the episode with him being able to talk makes me question if there will be though.

I'm curious to hear what angles you guys think they could use from it. The only thing that makes sense to me is it having to do with Leonard and Penny's relationship. Either them drifting apart or becoming more serious due to his long absence.

I could see them becoming more serious, or Leonard developing a strong friendship/potential relationship with a female while aboard. I don't think he'd cheat on Penny at all, but I could see him finding someone he's interested in, and having that conflict where he eventually has to make a choice.

I just realized this was the finale while reading through the posts, ugh! I was hoping it was the second to the last with the finale seeing Leonard returning and being having Penny propose to him. At one time I predicted the finale being Penny getting her acting break out of the blue, with the proceeding season her detachment from the group, but ultimately realizing her happiness lies with the group, she returns and proposes.

The whole plot of the the finale was rushed and anti-climatic; disappointing imo.

As far as where the show is going: I can see this show going at least 10 years easily as we witness the group transitioning into more adult situations (marriage, children, etc.) while hanging onto their nerd. I was chuckling imagining Shelton caring for his child. Additionally, none of the actors on this show are larger than the show. Unlike many other successful shows that ended its run early because of an early exit of an important actor that had gone onto bigger and better roles.

To this point, this show is one of my favorites, top 5 definitely. I just hope the writers don't screw it up.

I'm a huge fan of the show and the cast, but it could not survive without the character of Sheldon.

While I agree, I don't see him leaving or being that highly sought after.

While that's true, it also couldn't survive without Leonard or Penny. But he's talking about actors, not characters. It's not like HIMYM where they all have very successful careers other than the show. None of them are "held back" from bigger and better things like you see in most big time sitcoms like Friends or The Office.

Of the entire cast though, you can tell "Penny" is gonna prob have biggest career once this show is done. Crazy to think 6 seasons of this show, and she's only 27.

I'm hoping that won't be put to the test soon. Are they only guaranteed for a 2013-14 season?

Ya. But like I said before, they got renewed back in 2010, so it's not like they only get renewed on a yearly basis or something.

And no way CBS would ever let this show end after 2014. HIMYM is ending in 2014, Two and a Half Men is either ending or will be cancelled after 2014(at least you'd have to think, since show has been going downhill, and it's not even 2 and a half men anymore) so if BBT ends in 2014 also, CBS will take a HUGE step backwards for a couple of years.

BBT will prob end up like Friends and go like 10 or so seasons.

I think Leonard leaving will at first cause tension in their relationship, where they attempt to make the viewers think it could actually end their storyline, before it ultimately brings them closer together.

There's no way they'd simply have it bring them closer together from the jump, and I don't see them ever splitting them up.

Guess I'm not really going out on a limb here though

I could see this happening very easy. They even foreshadowed it by Raj choosing Leonard as the first to meet his "girl". He is easily the center of three of the largest connections on the show...and without him as a buffer to Sheldon a lot of social problems could develop in their circles.
