Ben Foster is one of the most underrated actors out there.

He'd be great for the Riddler. If you don't believe me, watch Alpha Dog.

I would say watch 3:10 to Yuma, he was freakin' incredible in that movie, but yeah Alpha Dog too...or hey, how about Six Feet Under where he got his start? He was a real psycho in that show.

Why does it have to be 'dark'? Why cant he just be a 'criminal'? albeit one in the batman universe, but a criminal none-the-less, not some psychopath?

and depp in the crow? I hope thats a joke.

The portrayal of the Riddler should be dark and complex in keeping with the tone set by the Dark Knight which set the bar.

Depp in the Crow is not a joke, it's my favorite movie and I've always thought he'd do a great job in a sequel.

If he's just a criminal whats the point? The Riddler is f'n crazy, thats why he's a villain and not some run of the mill criminal.

And I'm loving the Chicago-based Gotham City.

He can be crazy, like I said 'a criminal in the batman universe' that aint a regular criminal, I just dont want to see another psychopath just like the joker, whats the point in that?
Lets not forget batmans roots lie in being a detective.

and the chicago=gotham just took me out of the whole thing, especially after 'Begins' where they created a Gotham, and now for DK its just gone? Completely distracting, and lazy. When they were chasing the Joker in the truck I was waiting for Jake and Elwood to go by in the Blues-mobile.
Or maybe the joker could have given Gordon his address as 1060 West Addison.

                Or see Hostage.

See, the thing about Depp is if we have him, the girls will be all over him because it's Johnny Depp. If it's Foster, they would be frightened because he could play a Nolanized loon very well. Even with Ledger, he wasn't so big that people could honestly say, aside from the interrogation scene, that you could point him out by his features behind all of the makeup. Depp is recognizable from a mile away, and I want people to see the Riddler, not Depp.

But every character in the Batman/Dark Knight series IS a psychopath....even Bruce Wayne/Batman (except for maybe Catwoman). It's just Bruce Wayne addressed and handled his obsessions and traumas completely differently from the villains. The villains decided to take their pain out on society while Wayne decided to protect others from having to feel the pain and feelings he's felt.

I'd argue a woman who dresses as a cat and is a clepto can be considered at least borderline insane.

Oh she's out there, definitely, but pretty much everyone else had some sort of major trauma or something that altered their persona. I believe Catwoman was just pretty much a catburgler. A damn sexy catburgler.

uh...fellas...being dark doesn't just equate to psychopathic. tim burtons movies are dark for example, and not all of his movies are psychopathic. dark in the context i was using it just meant complex, multi-faceted, different, not a typical black and white bad guy, etc, etc

Re: Batman 3 news and rumors.

Maybe I'm the only one, but if they go dark with the Riddler, it's going to be compared to Heath's performance as the Joker.

And, with all due respect to Depp and Foster, it might not compare to Heath's portrayal of the Joker. Granted both are great actors in their own respect, but I feel if they go out of their way to make it another "dark" criminal, it'll feel too much like rinse/repeat.

I think the Nolan brothers are creative enough to find a way to make the next villain, whomever it may be, be intriguing enough without going dark again.

Don't get me wrong, I loved how dark TDK was, but they don't need to be stuck inside the mindset of making it as dark/darker.

I just hope the third one doesn't suffer from Return of The Jedi-itis.... It's going to be really difficult the next film in this series to live up to TDK.

I just hope that they don't go into the mindset that they have to top TDK. Normally, that means more action, more explosions, more comedy, more big-name actors... sometimes a few of these things can lead to something that you don't want. The Dark Knight was almost a perfect mix of everything (perhaps a little more tie-in with Wayne and his parents like in BB), and it's going to be very hard to top. In fact, I wouldn't be the least disappointed if they ended at TDK, especially if Nolan didn't come back. If Nolan didn't come back, I would have a tough time even wanting to see the movie.

I always liked the Black Mask idea somebody posted about a while back... that always sounded intriguing enough. Basically, the villain may not need to be too big of a name if Batman needs to fight his inner struggles more than anything and restore his credibility in Gotham.

Do you honestly think Christopher Nolan would try to do "more explosions and more laughs?"

Re: Batman 3 news and rumors.

He really hasn't, but then again, he has never made the greatest movie of all time, either. I'm just saying that expectancies will soar for this next one. If he makes it the best he knows it can be instead of trying to do more with it, then it can become great on its own. But too many times again and again have I seen sequels try and "top" their predecessors, only to fall in the process.

Nolan is thus far my favorite screenplay writer and director that I'm well aware of, especially in terms of consistency and his ability to know what he is doing with every shot. One thing I love is how he can string an action sequence into one or two shots to show that everything he is doing on screen is real, rather than cut after cut as an attempt to hide the CGI efforts. I have faith in him, and he is the only guy I have faith in so far.

As far as "laughs," I sort of meant Hollywood-ized humor... stupid stuff, cheesy stuff. Like, if I were to omit some lines from TDK, they would be all of the lines from the S.W.A.T. guy riding shotgun in that one scene, as well as the cop that goes, "Have a nice trip, see you next fall."

And, if this is to seal off a trilogy, I really hope the story is ironed out. Not to say that TDK wasn't, but I saw some material in there that I thought could have used a few more minutes of screentime, even if it's something like the party scene how it ends abruptly with Batman and Rachel on the taxi, the trial scene, or the end of the scene where Dent flips his coin to Rachel. Just... I suppose I'm asking for a little more smoothness on the transitions.

Again, as my favorite director, TDK was my least favorite directed (in order... Memento, Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight). I would love to see him win Best Director for this because so far I have not seen a movie this year better directed, but I know that he knows what things he can do better. Let's just hope he does them.

Oh, and any word as to whether they're going all IMAX on this one? That would be epic!
