I can take thats a good answer or reason. The movies i liked him in had nothing to do with acting just was funny and he was funny in it.

Maybe he can shock the world like Keanu Reeves hes horrible to me but did alright in the Matrix 1 and his last movie

I look at it like this, if the role is written well enough Eddie Murphy will be able to get into the correct character mode and play the role how the director wants it to be played or whomever they pick for the role if its not Eddie

I think he would fit into the batman universe slightly better than Richard Pryor did in Superman 3.

And no, I do not believe any of these rumors are actually true.

There are several reasons I'm opposed to Eddie in this role:

1. He's too big for the role. When you watch the movie you'll see Eddie Murphy, not the Joker. Think about it, neither Christian Bale nor Heath Ledger were really big stars that everyone knew. Most of their movies were niche type movies. You can't have a star that overpowers the role, it's bad casting.

2. He's more of a comedic type actor and not one that you can take seriously, yes even the Riddler has to have the ability to be taken seriously.

3. His last few movies have just been terrible.

4. He was never that good of an actor, more of a presence in a specific type of movie that could use his comedic, free-wheeling, attitude to have someone else (re nick nolte) play off.

I don't really agree with that.

First, I don't really consider Eddie Murphy a big star. This isn't the 80s. Eddie Murphy is like the 80s hairbands; there are the people who will go to see them for some reason, but pretty much everyone else knows they're done.

Second, I see Eddie Murphy instead of the characters because he's almost always the same character and a pretty bad actor. I don't see that with Denzel, Hanks, Cruise, Spacey, Russell Crowe, Leo, Ed Norton, Depp, Brad Pitt (for the most part), and Will Smith (at least in the 00s). I think that most of those guys wouldn't be very good in this, but Murphy would be an abysmal choice.

Honestly, I just wouldn't ever say that anybody is a bad choice until I actually see them. When I though Ledger, I thought Brokeback Mountain because that was the last movie I saw him in (not the homosexual aspect, but the cowboy aspect), and I was like "No way could he have that kind of range and play the Joker." Well, I was perhaps the most surprised out of anybody here.

I'm not saying Murphy is the right choice, but Nolan is also not about to clown this series up either. If he chose him, or whoever he does end up choosing, regardless as to what you guys think prior to the movie's release, I'm sure he has a great reason behind it that we will see on screen, and again, ever question why we doubted him in the first place.

I still wouldn't mind seeing Carrey again, yet only in the way Nolan wants him portrayed, no Carrey-isms. However to be honest, I'd prefer that they don't go with the role of the Riddler, or Catwoman, or the Penguin...

Bale and Ledger are/were major stars before Batman. Bale is one of the greatest actors of our generation, and Ledger was a heartthrob to millions of girls. You can say that they didn't make mainstream movies pre-Batman, but they were definitely stars.

I can only think of one movie besides Batman that Cristian Bale was in before the Batmans and that was the dragon movie. Same with Heath, he was only a star because he played a gay cowboy.

Also, if they go with the Riddler, I hope they don't make him as psychotic as the Joker, it would seem to much like a rehash and kill the movie expiereince.

Most average movie goers didn't know who Bale was before Batman Begins. Ledger stopped being a hearthrob after A Knight's Tale and took roles specifically to distant himself from that heartthrob status. He was well known but to say he was adored by millions of young girls when he was cast as the Joker is stretching it. He earned a reputation for being a quality actor by that time but certainly not an "A" lister in terms of box office appeal. That's why alot of fans were up in arms with his casting because they wanted the "Depp" type of actor in terms of box office appeal to be on the marquee for TDK.

Doubt that'll happen, as Nolan has said he prefers the realistic baddies and, well, Clayface doesn't fit that. As badass as Clayface is.
