I don't know if you saw the movie "Hostage" with Bruce Willis but Foster was one of the young villains in that movie. Forgettable movie but Foster was disturbingly creepy in that movie and I've been a fan of his ever since. If you haven't seen it rent it just to watch his performance and what he would be capable of in Batman 3 as an on the edge, brooding and disturbed Riddler now that he's a more seasoned actor.

but woudnt that make it cheesy? Imean we already saw a physco villian...it's better to take it into another physco direction, something weird and mysterious...I like foster but all his movies he was the same character...IMO I think Depp could bring that weird/mysterious riddler.....as long as he doesn't dominate the screenComment

I don't get this love for Depp. Yeah he's a good actor with the right roles. The role where he can be a smart *** like Captain jack and the CIA guy in Once Upon a Time in the West. There's a reason he's in so many Burton movies, he's the type of actor that is at home in Burton's quirky off the wall movies and hence would have been perfect for Burton's Batman movies not Nolan's.
This guy was on no one's radar until he played a pirate in a Disney movie and yes he has been very good in dramas like Donnie Brasco and those chick flicks but he's made his career in Burton films which are as far from Nolan's films as one could be.
It's not happening anyways because him being in the movie will overshadow the movie itself just like with Burton's Batman movies which just became a vehicle for famous actors as villians and I can't see Nolan wanting that. It's not like Nolan needs the big name villain to sell his movie, the next Batman is guaranteed to do major box office.Last edited by Seymour Scagnetti; 12-24-2008, 12:39 AM.Comment

I just want to make sure that, if they use him, it's not just going to be exactly what Ledger's Joker was, and that's what everyone else is saying around here. I wouldn't have minded him as Zsasz, but he's already been used.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Batman 3 news and rumors.
In what movies has Foster been the same character? The dark characters he portrayed in Hostage, 3:10 to Yuma and Alpha Dog were not at all similar. You want weird and mysterious so you think the Riddler should be portrayed like Willy Wonka by Depp. Not only does Depp not look at all menacing in any role he's ever done but he does the same thing every quirky role he's done. He just hams it up. You don't think that would be cheezy?

Re: Batman 3 news and rumors.
I've never considered the Riddler a secondary villian and think that he's one of the more fleshed out realistic villians that is suited for Nolan's Batman movies. I'd be very suprised if Nolan doesn't go that route.Comment

Re: Batman 3 news and rumors.
The Riddler has been a secondary character in the Batman comics for most of his existance. He wasn't always portrayed as a real threat and for awhile was mostly a comedy piece (see Batman: The Long Halloween) His character has seen a reimagining since Jeff Loeb and Jim Lee's Hush series which has put him back on the map with comic fans. He's only known to the general public because of his inclusion in the Batman television series and later Jim Carrey in Batman Forever. Even his role in the more recent Batman: The Animated Series was fairly minor, earning him a starring antagonist role in only 3 episodes of the 4 season long series.
He is a believable, narcisistic type of villain that works in the real-world setting of Nolan's Bat-verse. And its that realism that seems to make him everyone's presumed "next" villain. I feel ultimately Nolan (and whomever else is involved in the screenplay) will deem him too gimmicky and too similar to the Joker. Plus, I think the public expectations of a Riddler movie will make them want to go against the grain and give us something else.Comment

Re: Batman 3 news and rumors.
The only problem though is how does he tie into the entire mob outfit? I haven't read the comics so I'm not sure, but how will he differentiate much from the Joker? As you've noticed, the past two movies have been very much about the mob. How will he tie in?Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Batman 3 news and rumors.
Riddler's most common portrayal as it relates to the mob was as an informant, even serving in that capacity for Batman (e.g. The Long Halloween and Hush). Only he isn't straight forward but gives answers in riddles. He also exists as a straight away villain who commits crimes (bank robbing and so forth) and leaves behind riddles to tip off the cops and Batman.Comment

Re: Batman 3 news and rumors.
Even if Eddie Murphy did get a large role in the next movie and performed very well, would you still be able to take his part seriously?
A big time star, especially one with a resume like Murphy's, would only take away from the movie, not add to it.I post the frog
