Here's my issues with the movie. FWIW, I think The Dark Knight is better then The Dark Knight Rises. I'd rate TDK a 9+/10 and TDKR around an 8/10. I don't think TDKR was a horrible movie, but I think TDK simply set the bar so high that it would be impossible surpass or even to reach that bar. Anne Hathaway was spectacular though. Massive props to her.

I didn't like..

1. The ending. It felt like a hollywood, "happily ever after" type ending with Bruce and Selina going off and living a brand new life. I thought the ending would've been very, very good if they just had Alfred at the end bawling his eyes out and then Blake getting the instructions.

2. The anticlimatic deaths of Bane and Natalia. I'm not saying they weren't very realistic deaths, but at the same time it just felt rushed and not this intense, dramatic type of conclusion. I also thought that maybe they should've built up Bane more ala the Joker, but I guess all of their character development went towards building up Catwoman.

3. Maybe I'm going deaf, but at times I couldn't understand what Bane and especially the old man in the cave was saying. I wish they had subtitles for Bane and the old dude.

Who's Natalia? The "old man in the cave" was the prison's doctor. I guess you missed that part but you probably couldn't understand him because he wasn't speaking English save for a few lines.

Quoting myself here. I'm seeing so many things being discussed that this guy has great, logical answers to.

Ultimately,I don't think there are nearly as many "holes" in this movie as what some are saying. Besides, grounded in reality or not by Nolan, the entire concept of a single man dressing up in costume and taking on the entire criminal underworld of the nation's largest city is a ridiculously silly concept anyway. Despite the "realism" that this series injects, you still can't take it THAT seriously. If I really wanted to disect this film, or this series, I could find a million things wrong with it, and plot holes that could be filled. This is still a movie, about a "super hero", and as such, some of the belief needs to be suspended.

That link raises a good point about the traceable necklace and using that as a "meet up" device for Alfred and Bruce at the end. I knew the necklace was missing, but I didn't even think about it in that way.

If anyone is interested, Kevin Smiths 'Smodcast' podcast has a real fun, thorough breakdown of the movie. I was laughing at not only Smiths takes on the film, but how he described the film to his partner Scott Mosier with such enthusiasm that he impersonated the voices, particularly Batman and Bane. It is the most recent podcast put out by him, and is around and hour and 30 minutes. Highly entertaining.

Of course as he mentions early on, it is spoilers galore for the TDKR. And technically, it is the second part of a breakdown of the film. Part one is available on his latest 'Fatman on Batman' podcast. However the first part is a more general discussion of not only TDKR, but Batman in general. Part two is really good as he quasi-narrates the film to Mosier.

Lol. So because you don't like the film, it won't get oscar consideration unless it's "apologetic?" That's laughable. It will definitely be nominated for best picture. It probably won't win, since big budget movies like this almost never do.

No because it's mediocre and full of holes/too many things not being explained which have been pointed out repeatedly. It's not even close to TDK and it's also beneath Batman Begins. I don't think I'd even put it ahead of Batman,Batman Returns or Batman Forever. It simply doesn't deserve one unless it's a "we're sorry we didn't nom TDK so here's this instead".

Yes far as he knows. That's the thing. There's not even a guarantee he'll take up the mantle. Even if he does he's hardly trained for it. Bruce spent what,3 years? training to be Batman. This cop is just going to pick it up? I don't recall the scene where Bruce installs the no killing belief in him. Is Alfred going to come back and help? Will Lucius still help? Where's HE going to get the money to fund all the gadgets/armor/etc.? All the money went to Alfred and the Orphanage. On top of that Bane raided the armory. I doubt a policeman's salary pays for a new Batmobile. Bruce will send it from Italy? How does he get it? Obviously had to change his idenity,start up a new company? It'd take years to get that much money again. Blake doesn't seem much in the science department either. He's going to know how to use all that stuff in the Batcave? When Poison Ivy shows up he's going to be able to able to come up with a cure?

Regardless Batman/Bruce wouldn't up and leave Gotham.

Yes, it's a bit metaphysical, so it's a cheat, but from a filmmaker like Nolan, who uses these themes often, and in this particular trilogy of films, which focuses far more on message more than the logistics, perhaps assuming that what you posted is true, which is a fair assessment if you're going with the "Bruce survived" angle, the shots of Batman still in the cockpit ARE Batman...and NOT Bruce. He is essentially letting go of that part of himself, allowing it to follow the inevitable destiny of being a martyr for Gotham. It's redemption for the lies and deceit. He proves that his choices were always for the better of the city's inhabitants. The look on his face in those shots is of contentment. Bruce has no further need for that part of his psyche, so that is what flies off to die in the bomb blast.

Remember that earlier in the film, in the prison, he "finds the fear" that allows him to make the jump. There's of course the debate over whether the bats he sees are even real, or are a symbol of him allowing that fear of death back inside of himself. This bookends with the shot in Batman Begins, when he allows the fear to leave him amidst the swarm of bats. To me, this is the moment that he let's go of "Bruce" and embraces "Batman". Finding the fear is essentially him finding himself. The power to beat Bane comes from allowing both sides to co-exist. But after he does so, it's clear that Bruce's time as Batman has come to end. So since he has embraced his humanity and has no further need for the rage and turmoil that is "Batman", he allows it to go off with the bomb, where it belongs. Because ultimately, that's what Batman was. The side of himself that would do anything to protect Gotham, including death. He is now Bruce Wayne, a man that can live his life for himself, which is what Alfred, as a father figure, has always wanted for him.

Probably too far-fetched, eh?

Perhaps it is, as I like to look at things at face value. But it's not too much to put past Nolan as a filmmaker.

And goh, what are the biggest plot holes you would like filled in? Most of the things in this film have an explanation, which I will be seeking out in the book.

A lot of people complain about how Bruce was able to go from the Pit to Gotham, and also enter Gotham. Yet, they have no problem that Bruce somehow had the time, patience, and invisibility tactics to kerosene the facing of a bridge with a bat symbol so Gordon could light it with a flare.

And you know what? As gaping as something like that is, I personally don't care that it's in there, because I loved that instance. Some things are "allowed" to go by, and should not be thought of too heavily. This would be one of those instances.

The training is nothing. The will is everything. The will to act.

Anyway, the trilogy is over. If somebody decides to act on these things, they'll have to come up with the story themselves. Nolan is done with Batman. It's better to go off and assume that things will just happen nicely for Blake, that he will become Batman. If you don't think too hard about the specifics going into it, until somebody canonizes what actually happens, you'll leave the theater feeling a lot better about it.

Reign your horse, sir. I definitely agree it shouldn't be nominated for an Oscar, but saying its below Batman Returns or Batman Forever is just as far fetched to me.

Those aren't things this movie needs to even being to explain. Establishing those things would just begin another story.

I saw it again yesterday, and with each viewing the movie is that much better. I completely understood Bane this time, The Talia reveal with her speech didn't bother me I thought it was awesome, and for casual fans I can tell they didn't see it coming... Also the way I interpret the ending is Bruce alive Literally, none of that batman died and bruce didn't nonsense lol
