DISCUSSION of The Definitive Top OS 100 Movies

**The Definitive Top OS 100 Movies**

To help daflyboys with his calculations and keeping track of the movies a lot easier and seeing how everybody is having trouble following directions over there, I thought this thread would be helpful to clear some of the "clutter comments" out of that thread and house them here.

So, click the link above NOMINATE one film and/or VETO one film. Then come back here and DISCUSS.

Well I just nominated a film that I think only a few of us may have seen. It's The Petrified Forest. This is the film that made Humphrey Bogart a star and included Leslie Howard and Bette Davis. This movie is a powerhouse of a film and I give it my most sincerest recommendations.

Yeah, the fact that someone nominated Happy Gilmore, was vetoed by someone else and then immeaditely went and vetoed that persons nomination of Hotel Rwanda shows exactly why this wont work. Hotel Rwanda is far and away a better movie then Happy Gilmore and the fact that someone actually thinks otherwise makes me question what the hell they use as criteria for a good, top 100, movie.

Yeah, JJ is just being bitter that I vetoed a movie that doesn't deserve to be in the Top 100, so he vetoed a movie I nominated just to be cool.

Agree, it should have been top 20 because people arent realizing exactly how many movies that would fit into 100, if you went through the entire thread I would be somewhat surprised if there have even been 100 nominations as of yet. Hotel Rwanda was an excellent movie, Ive watched it plenty of times and I own it, awesome movie. Happy Gilmore gives me laughs still to this day but its not a top 100, if it was then we might as well open the floodgates to movies like Big Daddy, Dumb & Dumber, Billy Madison etc. Where is Citizen Kane at? Not a single mention of that movie yet we got Dumb & Dumber, Happy Gilmore and other strange, off the wall entries.

There should really be a 1970 cut off date. Not because old movies suck, but because some people are susceptible to critics, there will be a movement of people wanting nonsense like Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, and Wizard of Oz to win because older clowns say that they're the best movie of all time.

Ever seen Citizen Kane? Its an older movie but its definitely in the top 100, same with Wizard of Oz since there was no criteria put in place. Are we basing it on money made? If so then someone has to throw in Titanic based on that. Are we just basing it on personal taste? Then we will see constant listings of Big Daddy, Dumb & Dumber and Happy Gilmore since those movies are their personal favorites. Ive never seen Casablanca so I cant say anything about that movie.

Substitute off the wall with great and hilarious and you're right.

I didn't know that if a movie was funny, it's automatically disqualified.

                  These are the movies I think should be there and I dont believe have even been mentioned as of yet;

                  Its a Wonderfull Life
                  Goodfellas
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
                  Schindlers List
                  Citizen Kane
                  Lord of the Rings
                  Unforgiven
                  Tombstone
                  E.T.
                  Pulp Fiction
                  Finding Nemo
                  Psycho

Im sure there are more but those are the ones off the top of my head.

Hey, if all it takes is a comedic movie to entertain then throw it in by all means but to say its better then Hotel Rwanda, which I have my doubts you have even seen, is unbelievable to me. I liked Happy Gilmore and own it, but its not better then Hotel Rwanda and I dont think it deserves to be in the top 100 but thats why this wont work. Ive seen Star Wars vetoed while people are going to bat for movie like Happy Gilmore, this so called list is going to be nothing more then a hodgepodge collection of movies that escaped the veto vote and thats it.

EDIT- Hell, There's Something About Mary was far better then Happy Gilmore imo and it hasnt even been mentioned I dont believe.

                      I still think it's a great movie.

And people that are vetoing 300 are the ones with major taste issues.

                        I dont think 300 was a top 100 movie either so I guess I have issues then. To add to my previous list, I looked up the top 250 over at IMDB for ideas as to what I might have missed and there are more to add imo;

                        The Professional
                        American History X
                        Se7en
Forrest Gump (Might have been listed already however)
                        Alien
                        Saving Private Ryan
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
                        Reservoir Dogs
                        Sin City
                        The Green Mile
                        Gladiator
                        Heat
                        Kill Bill
                        The Big Lebowski
                        Philadelphia (Tom Hanks movie right?)

Yes, I've seen both, and everyone on OS has 100 movies they'd rather watch than those two. The only reason anyone would say they like Citizen Kane is because AFI said it's the best movie ever. Voting Citizen Kane as one of the best movies ever is like voting Zelda or the original Mario the best video game of all time.

I dont know how you can make that assumption, and if you really think movies like Happy Gilmore are better then Citizen Kane then I dont know what else I can say as we clearly have a different idea as to what constitutes a good movie apparently.

ive never seen Citizen Cane, but ive heard a lot about it. Im going to have to check it out to see what the big deal is. Usually, those older movies dont live up to the hype compared to movies today imo.

That is what is so amazing about "Godfather". It was made in '72 (not as old as Citizen Cane, but still pre-"technology era"), and it still holds up well against most movies today. I guess It's story was so good, it didnt need great film technology.
