What kind of weird virus is this?

First of all, I'm dismissing all kinds of joking about me putting horse pr0n on my computer and such. I don't do any of that, and you would be an idiot to try and do that at school when they are able to track the kinds of things you download anyway.

I noticed a chug in my computer when I got off my plane after Thanksgiving break. My laptop was in my backpack in the overhead compartment, and with people behind me, I sort of rushed off the plane by grabbing my backpack and swinging it down, which went right into a chair as I heard my laptop hit hard as well. When I first opened it up again, it looked like it was running 8-bit visuals at a 640 x 480 resolution. I rebooted and everything came back to normal, but it is making a bad constant whirring sound (even while in standby) and is running significantly slower.

Now, not three days ago, my Internet has just been terrible and doing very funny things. Let me note them:

- When I click onto a link from Google, instead of going to the site, it opens a new tab for some advertisement site.

- Half of the time I advance to another page, it says "The page cannot be displayed" until I refresh the page.

- Every site I have tried (avg.com, mcafee.com, lavasoft.com) displays an error on the page, as if whatever kind of virus this is literally BLOCKS me from being able to access these sites.

- We all love the "Not Responding" message, and I tend to get that after going through a couple of pages.

- OperationSports is one of the only sites that has been working for me, but if you guys remember what 56k was like, I'm at like... 6k.



I don't know if there's a way to rollback or something to a time where maybe the hit on my computer won't have any of this stuff affected like it is, and if there's a way to do that, it would be great if someone could help me out with it. Thanks.

I doubt that's a virus man. Your laptop might've been damaged and your internal Wi-Fi/Internet card might be damaged to the point where it affects net speeds.

I'm sorry, I meant to say that every virus scanning site (or spyware, whatever) blocks me. For instance, if I go onto OperationSports.com, perhaps I can get there in two minutes... but name any virus scanning site, I'll try it, and it will block me from going there. That's the weirdest thing about whatever this is. That's why I think it may be a virus if it's preventing me from getting to these sites.

No, it is a virus. I have that same thing on one of my computers. At first the antivirus 2009 ballon kept popping up, once I got rid of that malware I thought everything would be normal. But still when I click on a link off of a website it takes me to advertising sites.

I can search off the google search from mozilla and it gives me normal search results. But when I click on any of the search links, it takes me to ads. When I click the cached version, it takes me to the cached page, but it can never load up a link by itself.

Any link I type up by myself shows up, but like I said, anything I click redirects on most sites. Sorry I can't be of much help though b/c I threw out the laptop since it's 7 years old and so I was going to throw it out anyways.

No, that's okay... at least it's good to see I'm not the only person with this problem.

But I promise you, I have not done anything to this computer. It is far too valuable to even try and lose any kind of information on this thing. No free music downloading programs, no bittorrents, nothing. I've just been going onto OS, AOL mail, and YouTube, and the only programs I've been using are Firefox, Eclipse (for Java programming), and Word. It's now been about 9 days since the "hit," but it just seems to be getting worse and worse, unfortunately.

Mine was ruined by a friend, who is never allowed on any of my computers again. She went on her usual sites like facebook, myspace and some other stuff...I've nevers used any of those sites. I'm guessing she must have mistakenly clicked one of the pop ups by mistake, because I have that flash blocker add-on on my firefox which blocks all flash apps unless you click it to display.

I put all my pictures on a CD, and re-installed windows.

the antivirus programs wont work. When you go to run or update them this virus doesnt allow it. I had to reinstall everything.

The virus ate up my mcafee folder. When my quicklink to the anti virus didn't work, I went in looking for the root files, and the virus ate everything inside the folder, but kept the folder there just to give you false hope. It's a very smart and deadly virus.

Wow, that seems serious. Viruses that good usually have alot of people talking by now if a high-number have been infected. Gotta poke around some tech sites and see what's up.

Ugh I hated that Antivirus 2009 malware, I got that I think a month ago, a pain to get rid of but I was able to. (thank goodness for a 2nd pc, flash drive and running scans from safe mode) I'll try and dig up the articles I used to get rid of it, if you do have that 2009 antivirus thing.

I think that is what I have, but I also believe there is a strange combination of my computer slowing down because my computer got whacked against a seat, so I'm really getting the best of both worlds (annoying pop-ups with slow operating system). There is no evidence that there is causation, however.

Do you guys know if there was anything specific you did to get it? Like I said, when it comes to me and my computer, I'm a good boy.

I've got it and best I can tell it's the new Antivirus 2010.

It's quite literally unstoppable. It blocks every antivirus or spyware program from even running, and almost every website with a title containing the name of an antivirus program will be blocked. It also disables system restore and claims your copy of Windows is not genuine.

On mine at least, if you restart your computer without turning it off properly (pull out power cord/battery) and restart your computer, you'll get about an hour of regular speed internet.

You needed to look at the processes running on your computer. Ctrl-Shift-Escape with get you the processes. Right them down and then search google using the names, *.exe. This will tell you if it is a virus or not. Once you know what you have, Search for a resolution to it.
