Vundo is everywhere right now and looks like its been hacked into OS as well.

I had it in December, but it wasn't the nasty kind. I had popups, but it didn't block any sites. I was able to get rid of it with Malware Bytes, then Spybot in Safe Mode. Every site that talks about Vundo says update your Java to the latest version as Vundo takes advantage of outdated versions.

And I haven't heard of an anti-virus that blocks it.

I got Malwarebytes and managed to get rid of it I believe. Everything seems to be running smoothly for the time being. Atleast I can go on Google and not have a ton of popups.

True, but now you can run a Windows virtual machine inside the Mac OS, works wonderfully!!

You guys are late to the party. There was a topic almost a month ago about this because a lot of people got it from one of the advertisers on OS. I don't think it was ever determined which one but myself and others got it while browsing the forums. I'm going to have to reinstall Windows on my machine because it won't even boot up. Once Windows starts running it crashes and automatically restarts itself. I just haven't felt like dealing with it yet. Instead I ran out and bought a Mac.

No, that's okay... at least it's good to see I'm not the only person with this problem.

But I promise you, I have not done anything to this computer. It is far too valuable to even try and lose any kind of information on this thing. No free music downloading programs, no bittorrents, nothing. I've just been going onto OS, AOL mail, and YouTube, and the only programs I've been using are Firefox, Eclipse (for Java programming), and Word. It's now been about 9 days since the "hit," but it just seems to be getting worse and worse, unfortunately.

Had the same problem. Was able to get it fixed without too much hassle. It's a nasty virus that prevents you from downloading or using something that'll fix your computer. You just need another computer and a flash drive to download the needed software. Then you'll need to restart your computer in Safe mode and do the required repairs. I can't find the exact same page I used but do a search for "Antivirus 2009 removal" I ended up having to download Rootrepeal and wiping clean a "TDSS" rootkit that was causing the problems. [The one to delete will be highlighted in red]
Once you get rid of it you then run MBAM to finish it off.

Would having Firefox AdBlock Plus prevent this from being an issue?

This stupid guy I know actually thinks that Macs can never get any viruses. He had a PC before and it has every virus known to man. I don't know what the hell he was doing with his computer but getting a Mac won't solve bad internet habits.

My Suitemate got this today, he got it in the form of Antivirus 360. This thing is an absolute whore. I can't get rid of it, I've tried like 4 different specific removal tools, I've tried 3 spyware/adware programs (Spybot, Malwarebyte, Spyhunter) and have only successfully removed the program. It's still attached to IE and I have no idea what to do.

Edit: It was a phishing filter that kept the ads and whatnot on. Success!

I got the same thing with my LapTop. Everytime I got to google and click on a link it wont go to that link I click on. It goes to stupid stuff like Yellow Book and etc. It is really annoying.

Nah, that's not the one in this thread we're talking about. But thanks for the heads up anyway, I'll stay aware of this one. The one in this thread is called "Vundo" or "Virtumondo" or "Virtumonde."

Also I never removed it from my friends computer apparently. It seemed all good for a day or so but then he started not being able to open up windows or anything so he had to reinstall his OS in the end.
