You needed to look at the processes running on your computer. Ctrl-Shift-Escape with get you the processes. Right them down and then search google using the names, *.exe. This will tell you if it is a virus or not. Once you know what you have, Search for a resolution to it.

Even if it showed up there (which it doesn't), and even if google was usable (which it isn't), any website or solution would be blocked by the entity.

Does your computer run fine in Safe Mode?

Reboot in Safe mode.

THen Reboot in Safe Mode (with networking)

If it still runs really bad, then its a virus that could be hard to trace

However, if it runs fine in safe mode, than its a virus associated with some sort of program.

All I can say is good luck. I'm a techie and I did a personal favor for a coworker, who had the same problem as you. Long story short, I reformated the entire system.

I tried to do everything with this virus, and so far it's unstoppable. Pretty sure Microsoft is working on a patch for it right now. Safe mode, with any and everythign disable in the start items.

If you have time, what you can try to do is the following:

DL malwarebytes (also DL any antivirus or antispyware you like) as well as the update and put the installer and update files on a CD.

on your laptop, goto RUN > MSCONFIG > STARTUP tab

Disable everything thats listed. Hit ok and restart when prompted.

When your systems splash screen comes up hit F10 to start up in Safe mode (regular, not with network or command prompt)

if it safely starts up in safe mode, try installing the programs and manually updating them. See if a scan works and you're able to detect anything.

Make sure you are not connected to the internet. If possible disable any connections available.

See if that works..

Thanks so much. If I have time tomorrow (been in a computer lab since 9:00 this morning doing a programming assignment), I'll try this out.

Just wondering, because my parents are just going to want to know... do you know what could have caused this, or if perhaps I did anything I shouldn't have done to cause this? Also, does this virus considerably slow my computer down, or is that probably caused by the smash against the airplane chair?

Any process running will show up, if it doesn't show up, its not a virus on any processes. It would be easy to clean up as its not running and protecting itself from being deleted. Obviously you write them down and look on another computer as you can't do anything on the current computer.



Check the processor % usage, if it is maxed, its most likely something with the virus. The only way I can think of to test everything out would to do a burn-in test. I would just get the data off the computer you want and format if you have the recovery disk or windows.

id recommend looking at a program called hijackthis and look at the log for any suspicious acitively running files. I've managed to use the log to pinpoint where the bad file was. if it doesnt get deleted initially, you can go in there to the misc tools area and delete the file on reboot, among other options.

Odd.

I haven't been on OS in a couple of days because I've been dealing with a virus on my computer... matching all of the descriptions in this thread. Did, or do, you guys have tons and tons of pop-ups? I recently got rid of them using Spybot and Adaware, but it took awhile. I'm pretty sure there's still a virus on here, though... since some pop-ups mentioning antivirus scans or software are blocked.

Then use Malwarebytes (which will now be viewable) to kill the rest.

I think I have this thing too.

Everytime I click on a Google link, it sends me to an Spyware popup or even an ad that might be similar to what I was searching for.

This thing is a real bitch and it's smart as hell.

I had this and it sucked. The root of the problem is probably the Trojan Vundo virus.

There is a couple programs out there but it didnt get rid of it totally for me.

I had to send my computer back to LA for my IT guy to fix for me (I was a little ashamed I couldn't fix it).

He was able to get rid of it without reformating, so it is doable. Im just not sure what he did.

Are you getting delay when you type?

I have to say again it was the nastiest virus I have ever seen. BTW there is a thread in Steve's forum that talks about getting from here at OS, so you might want to check that out to see if you also got it here so we can figure out how.

If I get it again ill cry.

Oh yeah, I definately got it from OS, possibly one of the ads. Malwarebytes doesn't find any malicious items on my spu but I still have trouble with google links and antivirus popups.
