I'm shocked at Robert Downey Jr. getting a supporting actor nod.

I have no idea, but figured Winslett would get the nod for Revolutionary Road, and that got snubbed. Who knows with these things. The best 10 movies I saw all of 2008 weren't anywhere near the Best Picture nod, so what does that tell ya. LOL

You may want to see The Reader. I hear Winslet gets a naked, a lot.

Didn't think Tropic Thunder would ever get an Oscar nomination. Doesn't matter, Ledger's going to win.

I did like Milk and Benjamin Button but I'm tired of these Oscar people throwing on some random art house movie just because no one saw it. I am happy that Robert Downey Jr. got nominated though, even if it's really Heath Ledger's award.

Slumdog should sweep it's awards. Great flick. Milk = bleh...

Interesting to see Leo taking off the best actor list, and Brad put onto it.

I kind of hope he wins it (although, he won't). I think he's one of the most unappreciated actors of our time. He's been in some brilliant movies, and has really shown some brilliant scenes - and yet continues to get trashed by people who say he cannot act, and that he's just a pretty face.

On top of this - can anyone name another profession that celebrates itself as much as acting does? Seriously - how many award shows are there to celebrate movies and actors; it seems like there's one every month.

All of the Best Picture movies are also "best directed." Does this mean causation? Does this mean the winner of Best Director will also be for the same movie as Best Picture? Stay tuned...

                    Benjamin Button: 13 nominations.
                    Dark Knight: 1.

Reason #3,489 why I don't watch, or care about, the Oscars.

Oh Skerik, they love the "artsy" movies. I'm just surprised I've actually heard of most of the movies nominated. I usually only know of 1 or 2.

Would have liked to see "The Wrestler" get a best picture nod, but nice to see Rourke and Tomei get nominations. Not sure either of them win, but it's possible.

I can never pick these things because I, like most of us here, am more of a "common" movie watcher, not a Oscar type movie watcher. I enjoyed Milk and am going to see Benjamin Button (looks cool), but a lot of the really artsy stuff that wins awards isn't stuff I gravitate to. I'm sure they're good, and I would enjoy watching them, I just don't have the time.

Dark Knight got more than 1...It actually got 8. The only one I'm dissapointed it didnt get was for Best Picture. It got a nomination in every other category it deserved one.

I think Rourke has best actor in the bag personally.
