Re: Oscars 2009
Glad I watched these just for the Robot speech and Ben Stiller. Other than that, boring and pointless as usual. But the Robot speech had me laughing for 10 minutes.Comment

Wow, can't believe Rourke didn't win...what a joke. From all accounts, Penn was great in Milk but Rourke was absolutely incredible in The Wrestler.
Pretty much a downer for me.Patrick Mahomes > GodComment

How can you complain when you didn't see Milk?Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Oscars 2009
Exactly. I've seen 4 of the 5 movies the best actor nominees were in and Penn was by far the best (Didnt see the Visitor). Honestly, I thought Langella in Frost/Nixon was better than Rourke too. Rourke was incredible in a couple of scenes (the ones with his daughter, at the supermarket and at the bar with Tomei) but other than that he just did things that I see from wrestlers every week on Raw/Smackdown.
With that said, I didnt expect Penn to win because he just one an Oscar for Mystic River.Comment

Re: Oscars 2009
Oh I'm not saying Penn ISN'T deserving...I just can't believe Rourke didn't win because after seeing him in The Wrestler, I can't imagine any of the other nominees could've topped that but again that's my opinion, not fact.
I know what you're saying and I'm sure Penn was incredible, dude is an amazing actor. It's just that after watching Rourke, it wouldn't matter what anyone else did to me.Patrick Mahomes > GodComment

Re: Oscars 2009
I'd bet it's mostly because of description detail and dialogue (which is what I think wins most screenplay awards).
Whenever you have a screenplay where a man is making a speech, and the reader feels empowered by it, I think you just helped your cause.
And it was nominated for original because it has no background besides true events. Frost/Nixon is a true story but it was based on the play, so it lost any chance of being nominated for original screenplay."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I never thought Ben Stiller's ears could look any bigger...
On another note, for things I'm interested in, I'm two for three. Christoph Waltz won Best Supporting Actor and UP won Best Animated Film. Unfortunately, Inglourious Basterds didn't win Best Original Screenplay.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Oscars 2009
James Taylor puts me to sleep. I have a strong feeling Cameron won't win best director. Hollywood likes firsts, and a female director is one of them. Look for Hurt Locker broad to take it. On a side note, Indonesia has just preemptively issued a Tsunami warning for fears Gabrouey Sidibe will win best actress and attempt to walk down the stage.Last edited by Adam Dayton; 03-07-2010, 11:49 PM.Comment
