For me its gotta be Howard Shore's score for LOTR. It took those movies to another level.

The Godfather, TDK, The Gladiator, Star Wars, A Beautiful Mind are excellent as well.

Also what someone was saying earlier, Howard Shore's subtle acoustic guitar's in The Departed were excellent.

The last of the Mohicans theme is epic. Definitely one of the best. I really like Tan Dun and his work on the Hero sound track. Great stuff.

I am also embarrassed to say I really love the music from Doctor Zhivago.

Big Bourne Supremacy soundtrack lover as well.

Dances with Wolves was real good.

Of course you have to throw Star Wars in there as well.

Shawhank has an amazing soundtrack. You can picture every scene without hearing a word.

One interesting note, in an interview a few yaers back, they spoke with John Williams (Star Wars, Indy Jones etc) and he said his goal in most films was to create a soundtrack where you could follow the movie and know exactly who was on screen and what washappening without a word being spoken. Hence, all of the character themes and ideal themes (The Force Theme, Vader etc)

I think Jaws is pretty much the obvious winner. So simple yet the moment someone hums it you can instantly identify it within 2 seconds. As Spielberg himself once said, Jaws wouldn't be half the movie it was without Williams' legendary score. Strangely enough Spielberg thought Williams was playing a prank on him when he first played it for him. You can't really say that about any other movie in that the score is a character in itself. Movies like Pyscho had memorable scores but it would play as soon as Perkins killed someone. The Jaws theme would occur well before something happened and set the mood.

Fri*** Night Lights: The whole soundtrack is done by a band called Explosions in the Sky. I think they do other soundtracks as well but they're an instrumental band mainly. They might do Jarhead as well, and I know that they do some of the score for Remember the Titans.

The Last of the Mohicans is my favorite.

Also love Black Hawk Down score and pretty much the whole soundtrack.

And can't forget in Gangs of New York theme when Dicaprio goes to fight Butcher Bill and he is walking to the fight and the music that plays is awesome, same music plays in the very first scene of the movie as well.
