Glad this is coming back to theaters, I hate that I missed it last time around and can't wait to see it in 3D.

I thought it was supposed to be this summer, and I figured they just decided to ax the decision when I didn't see it running anywhere. Maybe it is supposed to be for next summer and I simply misremembered?

Ehhh...not too interested in seeing this movie again. IMO, what made this movie good was the 3D. If I would have seen these on a regular screen it would have been just ok. The story line was predictable, but the 3d was awesome.

Anybody picking up the Extended blu-ray? I passed on the first release and put the new edition on my Christmas list.

                Re: James Cameron's "Avatar"

The movie was paint-by-numbers in terms of story. It was cliched. But the selling point was the experience, and in that department, I feel it delivered. Cameron created a whole new world with this film, and there is some stroke of genius to that, whether people want to admit it or not. He's a filmmaker of great technological vision, and always has been.

It was, but the thing with this movie that made it so great to me was that, no matter how much II knew what would happen based on the cliches and past experiences with similar stories...I still cared about the events as they happened, still felt on the edge of my seat expecting someone to die or something unexpected to happen.

That's what sets it apart for me - the fact that Cameron took an overdone story and did it just as well, if not better, than the movies before him have all while turning it into a brand new experience.

Couldn't have said it any better myself.

This, 100%. Who cares is this story has been told before? IMO, this is easily the best I've ever seen it delivered. I love this movie.

I wasn't disagreeing with any of that. Just saying, in terms of the actual story and everything, it's nothing revolutionary. The movie is more about what they built around that story.
