Maybe it was for the phone conversation between Cobb and his kids when he was still in Hong Kong or wherever he was.

Though as far as I recall, people who are saying the kids are in the exact same position and wearing the exact same clothes, same age, etc. are incorrect. They look similar, but it's not perfect.

I don't know how to best expound on the theory of "sense of familiarity" for the audience's sake, but that was what Nolan wanted to convey. I don't believe it was strictly meant to confuse people, but rather to familiarize people. This is kind of how Cobb had always seen his children engraved in his subconscious, and it wouldn't really feel quite as impacting if they were just sitting at the table eating some Frosted Flakes and watching Spongebob. We had to feel what he felt, and so the scene had to feel similar in our eyes to get that emotional impact.

But then again, you could also make a conjoining argument that Nolan wanted to imply trickery for us, more of the "is it a dream or reality" kind of thing. Like when Cobb was being chased in Mombasa and he has to get through the wall which seems to be closing in on him, even though its stage is set in reality. Nolan is just good at this kind of thing I guess.

That's the funny thing about this movie, is that all of the mistakes and whatnot can be covered up or explained because it's a mindbender. Either that, or confuse the hell out of everyone.

Haha well something tells me that, with about ten years doing this script, Nolan left out any and all plot holes. I think in that regard, his film is technically "flawless" as he could have an explanation for anything and everything. I'm willing to bet that nothing people are catching was by accident.

Yeah

The girl is wearing a pink dress in each but they're different dresses. In the dreams it's a plain pink dress, but in the end the dress has white sleeves.

I would do a mash-up using 24 stuff, but I don't have own of the seasons to do such a thing. That would be the most **** one.

I hadn't seen a movie in theaters in a long while and happened to see this with some family, only knowing that it had gotten really good reviews and having NO knowledge of it at all outside of that DiCaprio was in it.

Just saw this on IMAX today. Enjoyed it a lot. Yeah, it definitely screws with your mind a bit. I loved it though.

You mean you knew that's how the ending would come about, or you knew the top itself would actually keep spinning? Because if you want my opinion, the top clearly shows a wobble at the end as if it's about to fall, but it cuts out right before it does. It means it was neither spinning nor not spinning. Limbo, baby!

He's still dreaming." You never see what happens to Cobb after Ellen Page's character "kicks" away in the 4th level. Frankly, I do like the limbo idea though.

Well I didn't mean it in the sense that he is still actually in limbo, but like the limbo device was used in the movie it's simply a paradoxial way of saying that you can't really say whether he is in a dream or the real world. I have a post maybe a couple of pages back in this thread where I interpret the ending in my own way, where it is simply impossible to answer.

As for what happens, I think he spends some time searching for Saito (remember how time elapses so slowly down there), and then when he drowned in the first level dream after the van hit the water, he died and was "sent to limbo," but essentially he was sent right back to where he was (since they were already in limbo), but he was just "reset" there. That's why we see him washed up on shore. At least that's what I thought it meant. It makes more sense that way because he and Saito are somewhat unable to remember why they are both there.

Another theory i just thought up was that he landed in the world that saito created by himself, and both happened to have a shore. Maybe the individual limbo created worlds are oceans apart

And I don't think he was in limbo as everyone ages and eventually dies, bringing them out of limbo. And the top does wobble but it stays upright for far too long, which makes me doubt that he is out of limbo.

The truth is really the only right answer is the one you make for yourself.
