Re: Christopher Nolan + DiCaprio = Inception
This is the only thing that I got hung up on, but other than this, what a fantastic film. Music was great on it too I thought.
SpoilerI'm assuming that a limited number of people in the world know what dream sharing is and how to do it. I'm also assuming that Fisher is one of them, since he had his mind protected. My question is: How did he not have any inkling of memory when he woke up from that dream that Cobb and Company were such huge integral parts of his dream and that they were the only people there with him in the plane; he didn't get suspicious? I'm going on the assumption as well that the actual dreamer just remembers fragments of his dreams like in real life...?Spoiler
think about how hard it is to remember dreams... then remember that in the first level of dreaming Fisher was kidnapped by masked men. It wasn't until the second level, where Cobb tells him he is dreaming, that Fisher even meets them.
So when Fisher gets to the 3rd level, he knows he is dreaming and remembers everything that happened in the 2nd level, because he has essentially been "conscious" throughout... however when he gets pulled back into the 1st level, he is under the impression that that is reality. As such, he probably only remembers vague information about the "dream" he had while kidnapped (if that... I'm sure waking up suddenly in a sinking car is shocking enough to make you forget everything about the dream you just had)
then on top of that, he isn't really awake yet. When he gets pulled back into reality, all he probably remembers is vague details about a dream where he was kidnapped (in which he never saw any of their faces) and nothing of the dreams inside the dreams

Re: Christopher Nolan + DiCaprio = Inception
Just came back from the theater, and my mind has officially been blown. I walked into the movie thinking it would be overwhelming and confusing. There was a LOT to follow but I'm glad that I was able to follow it with ease. The score was phenomenal and really made for some intense scenes. My heart was pounding out of my chest during several parts of the movie.
SpoilerDid anyone else find Mal extremely terrifying at times? The way she just threw those evil stares.
And JGL's no-gravity brawl was the most e p i c fight scene I have seen in a long time.

BTW, I thought the name of the corporation was something like 'Koble'.
Could be wrong about that, though.http://flotn.blogspot.com

Re: Christopher Nolan + DiCaprio = Inception
Secondly, I see what you mean with the obviousness of it being a summer blockbuster, but I heard Inception had a lot of trouble marketing to middle America, because of the type of movie it is... one you actually have to think in. Most Americans just want mindless action, which is fine, but many people are going to overlook this movie because it's so intricate. I've had friends tell me that directly, that it looks too confusing for them to enjoy.
Thirdly, it was a cheap pun. I kind of groaned a little bit when I wrote that. It was for all my cornball readers out there lolComment

SpoilerIt's debatable because the top started wobbling as the credits hit. Kind of cool how Nolan left it up for interpretationComment

Re: Christopher Nolan + DiCaprio = Inception
Non-spoiler thoughts....
....****ing incredible. I haven't been this satisfied, happy, relieved, etc. after a first/single viewing since The Dark Knight and The Departed. Those two movies happen to be my two favorite movies, so we'll see how this one holds up after repeat viewings and if it can keep that streak alive.
Nolan cemented himself as a premier director with this movie, Leo locked his place in as one of the best actors out there and one of my favorites, JGL needs more roles, and should get them after this one.
Everyone needs to see this movie. Usually a comment like this, from me, would come from the "hype factor," but that is not the case with this one. There is no hype for me anymore because this one surpassed my expectations.
Spoiler thoughts about the ending...
SpoilerIncredible. I was depressed that Leo didn't seem like he was going to get back...then he did....then I expected it to all be another layer of dreams....and then Nolan ends it with the "totem" wobbling, but doesn't show whether it stayed up or whether it fell. For a movie with so many layers/questions/turns it was the perfect ending. I expect people to be disappointed with not having the finite proof one way or the other, but for me, it amazed me.
And, just as an afterthought, I really didn't have a hard time following or understanding anything, so hopefully people don't think that's a universal thought and go into the movie thinking "this is going to be confusing".
Also, and I just remembered this observation during the movie, but to me the fight scenes in this movie, and the action scenes in general, were a LOT better than The Dark Knight. If Nolan improves on these ones and puts that kind of effort into the third Batman fight scenes, which I believe he obviously will, that removes one of the major problems with TDK. Now to just get someone to make sure Bale tones the voice down.Spoilerto me the "wobble" indicates that its real. i feel it would have spun perfectly if it was still the dream world, at least thats the discussion my fiance and i had.Comment

Re: Christopher Nolan + DiCaprio = Inception
SpoilerAgreed. Of course I'm not 100% in my head, but I think I believe that the wobble indicates that he got out of the dream.Comment
