Re: Christopher Nolan + DiCaprio = Inception
As expected, it was fantastic. I'm pretty sure I have a solid idea of how I believe the film came to a close, but there is one idea/scene that keeps throwing me for a loop:
SpoilerThere is one moment where Leo wakes from a dream, goes to spin his top, but is startled, and he never truly spins it and instead knocks the top to the floor. As such, he's never given confirmation that he is back in reality, and neither are we as the audience. It's very possible that everything that happened after that moment was all a dream.
Given that there was such an emphasis on that top spinning or falling, and then we have a moment where instead of spinning it he gets interrupted, this seems rather significant to me.

Oh, one more detail I noticed:
SpoilerThere is a reference to Dom (Leo) and his wife growing old together - it even shows them at an elderly age - yet, when they kill themselves to get back to reality, they are young again while laying on the train tracks. Why would that be?Comment

The way I took it, all of Dom's interactions with Molly was based on memories. As such, he tricked "Molly" into thinking they had in fact grown old together, but they didn't really.

Re: Christopher Nolan + DiCaprio = Inception
SpoilerThey just didn't show how old they were until the end of the movie. He told Ariadne that they were there for 50 years and he said that it was weird growing old and being forced back into a young body again so he wasn't lying to Mal to make it seem like he didn't live up to his promise.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Christopher Nolan + DiCaprio = Inception
I watched the movie and really enjoyed it. I've gotta see his other work like Memento, The Prestige and Insomnia.
I got up to use the bathroom several times, that's what I get for drinking Vitamin Water and Cocoa Cola before seeing the movie, and feel asleep during some of the beginning. I'll see it again to see if my first theory will stick or if it'll change do to some information I missed.
SpoilerI loved the concept that our regrets can manifest themselves through our dreams. Holding us back and not allowing us to move on and progress with our lives. Leonard's character was symbolic of "everyday people" - or people in general - that get caught in the "what ifs" of life, while neglecting to see what than can actually change: the present. Unfortunately, I've fought through that mindset for longer than I would like to remember.Last edited by J_Posse; 07-22-2010, 09:47 PM.San Antonio Spurs 5 - Time ('99, '03, '05, '07, '14) NBA Champions

Re: Christopher Nolan + DiCaprio = Inception
Reading all this differing analysis of the film is the real mind****.
SpoilerI'm totally convinced that it was all a dream from the jump, that the initial scene in the water when he looks up at his kids was reality, and that falling asleep on the plane was reality... haha... damn internet and its many arguments. I need to watch it again, but I think all of those interpretations could be right in a real, which is what makes the movie so smart... and the spinning top at the end combined with the early cut "incepted" the audience's minds with the idea that they sat through a 2.5 hours dream sequence ha. Nolan's a badass.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

Re: Christopher Nolan + DiCaprio = Inception
SpoilerI'm confused mainly on one part.
Near the end, Leo and Ellen Page are in Limbo. Page times her jump in Limbo with the music/kick. Leo does not.
What does this mean? Is Leo stuck in Limbo? Because I thought in his sedated state, he couldn't wake up for 50 years or however long it was until the sedation wore off, even if he killed himself, because he did not kick before everything else kicked.
How does he get out of Limbo if he missed that opportunity to leave like Page did?
Maybe I missed an explanation or forgot the scene, but that whole thing really confused me.Comment

Saito (as an old man) was still down there in limbo and he hadn't lived up to his side of the bargain.Last edited by Stumbleweed; 07-23-2010, 12:40 PM.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

Re: Christopher Nolan + DiCaprio = Inception
Might wanna put that in spoiler tags, stumble
SpoilerSo Leo waited in Limbo for 50 years? I understand that he saw Saito in Limbo, but how did he get out? I thought that meant his brain was going to end up as mushComment

Re: Christopher Nolan + DiCaprio = Inception
SpoilerSaito was going to shoot himself and at that moment Cobb "woke up" back on the plane as it landed/the sedative ran out. I believe that since Leo "knew" he was in Limbo, he had the power to escape, as he did previously with Mal. Saito didn't even know he was in limbo until Cobb told him at the end of the movie when he decided to shoot himself to wake up -- "let's be young men together again".
That's what I got from it anyway... Gotta see this thing again, probably on Blu-Ray so I can rewind and watch certain parts over again.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

Re: Christopher Nolan + DiCaprio = Inception
Every time I woke up during my sleep last night/this morning, I thought of "kick". Ridiculous.
After sleeping on this movie, I realize that I don't like movies that are insanely up to interpretation. Sure, a little bit is fine, but as ****ing incredible as the movie is, I can't help but feel cheated that I don't know exactly what the hell I watched for 2.5 hours.Comment
