Re: Jon Stewart Lays the Smackdown on Jim Cramer
LOL...they have to agree to come on the show. No one is obligated to go on the Daily Show. Cramer agreed to come on the show because he is a TV personality and wanted to debate Stewart's points.
The reason you wont see Dodd or Frank on the show is the same reason you wont see Phil Gramm or Eric Cantor on this show or Colbert. They are all politicians who dont need the Daily Show for pubicity and arent dumb enough to take a risk by going on a comedy show. Ive watched the Daily Show for almost as long as its been on and I've never seen a politician come on the show if they were involved in a scandal or in the middle of bad press.
The only politicians you will see on the show are people running for President (who could use the national press) and politicians who are in no danger of not being reelected (like Bernie Sanders). Dodd and Frank arent going to go on the Daily Show during a crisis involving them...they are going to go on a real news network.Comment

Re: Jon Stewart Lays the Smackdown on Jim Cramer
You're right. Obama would never go on Sean Hannity and a conservative wouldn't be caught dead on Olbermann's show. There's no upside. They're going to get steamrolled from the start and the host will think they're wrong no matter what. That's what's wrong with these biased analysts. They simply refuse to see things from the other guy's point of view.
Actually I think O'reilly is actually mellowing in his old age. The Old O'Reilly would've cut down Nancy Pelosi for using private jets on Tax Payers money but he didn't really do that and i've heard him talking with Dick Morris about Obama and how O'Reilly was like "Hey I think the American people want to give him some time and give him a chance".
That being said he's still very conservative in his views but at least he isn't chopping down every Democrat in sight.
As for Olbermann I like him but i'm actually enjoying Rachel Maddow's show a lot more. She doesn't use her show as a bully pulpit and is actually quite inquisitive. Of course she has her slant which she uses on the segments she editorializes but when it comes to interviews she's pretty fair.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

You are right but the Daily Show is a little different. Nobody (Dem or Repub) want to go on that show if they are involved in an ongoing scandal. The last thing they want is to go on a comedy show and risk being made to look like a clown on TV by Stewart.Comment

Oh, so it's ok to blast anyone that you don't like while at the same time influencing scores of college age people but not take responsibility for it? They should at least face up to the fact that what they do isn't just entertainment alone.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Jon Stewart Lays the Smackdown on Jim Cramer
I wouldn't exactly call Stewart's show a comedy show. I think it's actually a pretty good expose of the craziness of Washington and politics (of course a very biased viewpoint) but the thing that I don't like about Stewart or Maher is that they know their views and shows have a lot of influence with the college crowd but they hide behind the "oh but i'm just a comedian no one should take me seriously"

Stewart doesnt. He doesnt care if the news agencies pick up on his comments. He isnt trying to influence college students or anyone to agree with his points. Honestly, the Daily Show is no different than the Soup to me. TDS is a snarky clip show with skits and interviews. The only difference is one focuses on politics and the other on pop culture.Comment

Re: Jon Stewart Lays the Smackdown on Jim Cramer
Maher is a lot pushier and arrogant when it comes to his views and arguments compared to Stewart. I enjoy watching Stewart express his views because he doesn't always have to use words to get a point across - Maher tries to make the counter-point guys look like idiots for having a slightly different opinion than him.
As for Dodd - that idiot should have been voted out long ago. He's caused a lot of **** for his lack of foresight and lining his pockets with lobbyist kickbacks.Last edited by Fresh Tendrils; 03-20-2009, 05:55 PM.

Re: Jon Stewart Lays the Smackdown on Jim Cramer
I can't believe guys are comparing the Daily to Hannity, Oreily, Olbermann etc. Stewart has never claimed to be a serious reporter. The Daily Show has never claimed to be a real news show. They are entertainers.
Those other guys claim to be reporters of facts w/o bias. They play favorites, spin & that's reprehensible.
Stewart has never made himself out to be anything more than a jokester. As he said on that infamous CNN interview, "Our lead-in is muppets making crank calls". He's not required to show both sides if he doesn't want to. And it shouldn't be expected.
When the press demands protection because the public has the right to know, they should not abuse it by telling the public only what they want them to know.Originally posted by VP Richard M.
