Re: So I finally got a GPS.

I had a Mio Digiwalker that was $150 from Radio Shack. Horrible software but accurate and text -to- speech.

Gave it to my brother when walmart had the Garmin Nuvi 350 for $149 (my dad bought the same GPS for $349 last year). I don't go anywhere without it.

I refuse to buy a GPS that doesn't have text-to-speech. Gotta say the street names.

It was a monthly fee of like a total of $59 a year but I paid the $149 lifetime fee. However that fee is only for the MSN direct part, the rest of the GPS works just fine without that. I think MSN direct is worth it though as it adds a lot to the GPS.

This thing is crazy cool. It finds restaurants, gas stations, gyms, etc. nearby....every address I put in it tells me when and where to turn, the map is great.

Pardon me if you already have one, but I'm still in awe at the sheer awesomeness of my GPS.

Hell...I think I'll go explore this weekend.
I want one too... I think it will be my next "big" purchase.

Yeah, I have had GPS on my phone ever since I upgraded to the BlackBerry and got a new plan a couple months ago. It was always something that I was interested it but not super strongly. Now that I have it though, it sure is great to have.

I got a GPS for Christmas like 2 years ago, and I used it for a week and then stopped. I didn't like using it for some reason.

My wife and i recently went on a fairly long driving holiday and we borrowed my parents Tom Tom to see what it was like and it was awesome. It took all the stress out of travelling through strange cities and there was none of those "you should have turned back there" arguments that we used to have.

One question i have is how acurate are the speedo's on the sat nav's because my sat nav said my car speedo was showing i was driving slower than the car said by about 6 kph? ie my car speedo said i was sitting on 100kph (60mph) and the sat nav said i was actually doing 94.

Mine's pretty much accurate down to the MPH.

The GPS is great as long as you make sure you have the updated maps. If you have maps from years ago, it doesnt work well, sends you off in all different directions.

yeah that is very true. A friend of mine was travelling through Ireland in a hire car with GPS and he said they had to switch it off because it kept telling to turn into rivers and off cliffs etc.

It was a reference from The Office.

Do they even show the American version of The Office in Australia?

Edit: And why am I addressing this question to the American and not the Australian???
