Re: Predator reboot - Predators
Eh, OK time, met my expectations. Scatterbrained thoughts.
Brody killed me, all the reviews I saw had him as the next great action hero and he was just annoying, especially with that terribly forced voice. It's more unbelivable than an actual Predator.
Hated the stereotypical tough chick, might as well get Michelle Rodriguez for every single one of these roles.
Liked the Russian guy's acting, Topher was his usual self, and Walter Goggins gave what I thought to be the best performance.
Didn't like Fishborune's character at all and could have gotten anyone to play it, don't waste a big name like him.
Best thing the movie had going for it was just the fact that the Predators remain so incredibly BA. I would have passed out if I saw the first movie when it actually came out and I was the age I am now.
Overall, good action and good kills, really all the movie was meant for. No regrets.Comment

Re: Predator reboot - Predators
No, it was enjoyable. Like many said, there were some negatives but it wasn't bad. I have seen much much worse and considering the AVP franchise kind of took a dump on both the Alien and Predator franchises, this was way much better than those. Nothing will touch the original Predator due to the suspense and intrigue. I also liked the second Predator film, it wasn't as bad as many make it out to be.
The movie made $25 million for the weekend and has a budget of $40 million, so we know that it will make it back.
My complaints:
-Brody's voice was too much for me and I thought I was watching Christian Bale in the role with Nolan directing. Actually, Bale could have fit in this role perfectly. LOL!
-I didn't care too much for the classic Predator disrespect..........which in a few ways, did not make sense.
-The girl role was fine, but man that could have been good for Michele Rodriguez. They could have saved the money from Fishbourne and had her star in this.
-Brody in the mud acting like Arnold was a bit of a stretch, but the chick told him about it in the caves on how Arnold survived in the first film so with Brody being a survivor and opportunist figured might as well use this too to try and out smart the Predator.
-When I saw Tropher Grace appear on screen, I thought to myself this movie is going to hell. LOL! But his character was ok and not that annoying.
-The ending leaves a lot open for a sequel which is what it seems like they are going for here. I don't really want to see another season in the next film...........they have to come up with something different.Comment

Re: Predator reboot - Predators
My reasons for hating it...here we go.
Spoiler
Going to just rattle stuff off my head.
For starters, why do we care? Obviously none of the people on the planet who are being hunted are good people, so why should I care if they are hunted and killed off?
For a movie that was barely over an hour and a half, why did it drag on for so long. Very little background on anyone to make us even care, going back to my first point. They had senseless conversations that had no point. The babble when the alien chased the doctor ("it's 5 o'clock, time to rape some fine *** bitches", okay, that was funny though) and then the babble in the space ship.
The moment Topher Grace said he was a doctor, I knew he was bad. Come on, everyone else was a killer, but they grab a random doctor? LOL Ok.
Shane (Walt Groggins) character was a moron. You're in the room with Fat Fishburne who has weapons everywhere, and you leave the room with your shiv? After earlier wanting a gun? LOL
Speaking of fatty, he's been there 10 seasons (Which we know is probably a few days, I'm guessing they drop new prey daily to allow the 3 Predators to hunt them down), how did he get so fat? Drinking water and eating that schlop?
Movie felt like I was watching Lost in a way. Not a good way.
Didn't like how there are now Super Predators and regular Predators. Just dumb.
The pace was so poor, just had no reason for what was going on.
Why didn't they just put Machete out of his misery instead of letting him sit there, and then the girl do it. (I realize he was already dead, but then they would have known more about the Predators). Adding to that, obviously the girl knew he was long dead when she shot him, yet failed to ever mention it to anyone.
Speaking of her, how did she even remotely know about the Predators and the debriefing. She's IDF, the Predator thing happened in Columbia with American's. How would an Israeli Black Op get access to that?
The end Predator..these guys supposedly get smarter right? Well, how did he not know that Big Nose wasn't on the ship when he blew it up? He can get their heat signatures, but couldn't tell he wasn't on the ship? LOL Remember, this was before Big Nose tried to play Arnold.
There are many other things I had issues with, simply put, the movie shouldn't have been made. The first Predator is awesome, one of my all-time favorites. Predator 2, AvP, AvP 2, and now this are all utter garbage. Leave it alone!!

Re: Predator reboot - Predators
Alright here we go:
First off, this isn't a terrible film. It is halfway decent. The major problem I have is that it simply tries way too hard to be a B film. The script is bad, but not in a funny, obvious or "too serious" way, but in a pure bad way that sounds like halfway talented actors trying to inject some kind of talent into a horrible script. Lines that probably should be laughed at and used later in the week, come off as unmemorable and with no audience reaction. The story itself is just blah. They spend way too much time trying to explain who they are, why they're there when in the end, it doesn't really matter. They tried to paint these characters like they were all a big mystery, but by the time they actually reveal enough to make these characters somewhat likeable, you're not even wondering anymore. Not that all the characters weren't likeable. The convict and doctor were great, but everybody else was just a cardboard cutout taken from multiple films in the same no-story, action genre.
But even through those things I could have enjoyed the film somewhat. The only thing that kept truly kept me from actually liking this film and from it being fun and enjoyable was Adrian Brody. I do not buy him as a male action lead. It just doesn't fit. Everything with him seemed so forced, it was all I could do from sighing and rolling my eyes whenever he spoke or pulled another one of his revelations out of his ***.
Also, another thing that I found really odd were the obvious LOST shout outs. There was one at the beginning when the black guy said they were dead. Then another scene where there are whispers all around them. Yeah. It just seemed out of place and very odd.

I took the whispers as the Predators mimicking voices as they have in the other films, unless I missed something.Comment

Re: Predator reboot - Predators
I thought this as well. In fact, weren't the whispers "Turn around, over hear"? Which was in the first film when Mac had said it to Apollo Creed with the Predator listening in? And then later in the film when Mac said it again, the audience was led to believe that the Pred was setting a trap? That is what I thought....one of the many lines copied over from the original.Comment

Re: Predator reboot - Predators
It was LF during the one scene where he told Brody to turn around. But the scene w/ Danny Trejo tied up, it was the Predators. They have voice copying software in their helmets that copies the hunted which is used as a way of baiting whomever their after.Last edited by CaptainZombie; 07-13-2010, 06:56 PM.Comment
