I'm not gonna make a list, but if I did, "Anghellic" would be on it. Sadly, I think Tech's albums get worse and worse, tho

Nice Avy, though. I'm from the Zoo-town originally

Tech still puts out great albums, it's just tough, I think, to top Anghellic. He's a great lyricist, but he's writing about a lot of the same stuff now. But I still think he's a great artist.

Zoo town love! I'm originally from there, as well.

I dunno, maybe making cash got rid of a lot of the angst and the darkness I initially loved about Tech. I still love Absolute Power, too. I didn't like it nearly as much as Anghellic at first, but man, that one definitely grows on ya.

Not trying to diss anyone, and I may be in the minority (actually I'm sure I'm in the minority), but just because an album is 20 years of age, doesn't make it the best. Old doesn't equal better.

1 example... I love/loved Rakim Allah... dude was and still is a beast. "Paid In Full" was tremendous, but with the progression in rap, I would never ever say "Paid In Full" was one of the ten best.

I would never put anything on here that came out before 1994... that was the transition year imo where rap then and rap now still have similarities.

Again, I'm not upset or anything, but I don't see how a Beastie Boys album is one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time. I think that's a very short-sighted pick, along with a few others.

X - keyword "YOUR" ... this thread isn't about an ultimate top10 list. It's about the ten hip-hop albums which brought YOU the most enjoyment.

Who are you or I to say someone can't have the Beastie Boyz on their top10? That's obviously an album that, that particular poster enjoyed over a much better choice of Little Brother's "The Minstrel Show".

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I just wanted to see who are peoples favorite hip-hop albums, and what better way than a top10 list...

In my opinion, you've got this all wrong. Most of the great hip hop CDs that came out in the 90's are better and more original than most that came out since 2000. Little Brother, along with many other hip hop acts that you like, get their style from the 90's.

Wu-Tang made some of the most timeless hip hop music that exists. I still don't think that there has been a hip hop group or rapper with a bigger affect on pop culture or hip hop in general than the Wu.

Hip Hop does not get better over time. It just changes.

and you don't think there was a vast improvement in lyricism, flow, concept, and the whole works, going from the early 90's into the mid-90's? "Just Changing" means different sound... if LB showed up at a DipSet show, it wouldn't be everyone's favorite, but they'd still get the respect that a performer deserves. If Biz Markie was bringing his style to a show now... he'd be laughed/booed off the stage. Same with every rapper who had that nursery-rhyme style that the 80's possessed.

Although my list looks like just a bunch of favorites... I actually think those are the top 10 albums known-to-man. I hope some day, others will see why. But it's okay if they don't.

No, I don't think that there was a "vast improvement" in the lyrics. Yes, there was that nursery rhyme style of rap, but even during that, there was cats spittin' some heat (Kool G Rap, Rakim, CL Smooth to name a few).

How do you think 80's and 90's hip hop crowds would view Soulja Boy, D4L etc? I actually think they would enjoy that kinda music when you think how much music was made and enjoyed by younger people. They had hip hop music for kids back in the day too. Like I said, since beauty is in the eye of the beholder, you can't really say hip hop got better over the years, it just changed.

Remember, Hip Hop music is only roughly 30 years old.

Here's mine in no real order (hopefully I get the names right, I'm going off the top of my head):

                          Nas: Illmatic
                          Eminem: The Marshall Mathers LP

Outkast: Southernplayallisticadillacmuzik (Crumblin' Erb, Player's Ball, Ain't No Thang; man those were played constantly by me and my friends)
                          N.W.A.: Straight Outta Compton
                          Dr. Dre: The Chronic
                          Notorious B.I.G.: Life After Death
                          Notorious B.I.G.: Ready To Die
                          2Pac: All Eyez On Me
A Tribe Called Quest: Midnight Marauders

Just missed: DMX: It's Dark And Hell Is Hot

Props to the guy that mentioned Pete Rock & CL Smooth's The Main Ingredient album. That was a strong effort and I just downloaded a bunch of songs to my iTunes; thanks for refreshing my memory.

Man, looking at my list, there's a ton of groups I left off that I really enjoy like Gang Starr, Naughty By Nature (their first 2 albums were really good, imo), Jay-Z, Redman, EPMD, Keith Murray, Rakim, KRS-One, Busta, Snoop.

I haven't been a fan of much of the newer hip-hop. I grew up in the 80's-90's and I guess I'm just used to that style.

Easy 10 to pick for me.
X - I call into question your definitive list of what YOU think are the top10 hip-hop albums of all time.

There cannot be an all-time top10 w/o a Nas, Wu, or Jigga album in it.

                              I'd say Illmatic/Stillmatic/It Was Written

                              36 Chambers/Wu-Tang 4ever/OB4CbL/Liquid Swords/Ironman/Supreme Clientele...hell the swarm.

                              Reasonable Doubt/Blueprint/Blackout

W/o anyone or a combination of a couple of these albums your top10 list is null and void.
