In the movie an alien race arrives on planet Earth and are rounded up and shipped to live as refugees at a site in South Africa named District 9. A corporation is given the task of figuring out their weapon systems and discover that the technology requires alien DNA to work. When a human is infected with this alien DNA, all hell breaks loose and he becomes the most wanted man on the planet. And the only place for him to hide is District 9.
“District 9″ is based on “Alive in Joburg“, a short film produced by Neill Blomkamp, Sharlto Copley, Simon Hansen and Shanon Worley. Directed and co-written by Blomkamp, it features the likes of William Allen Young, Robert Hobbs, Jason Cope and many others.

                Interesting story for this kid.

No studio wanted to back the film because it's a first time director, and it was going to cost some heavy change to get it done. Big no-no combination in Hollywood.

Peter Jackson saw potential and decided he'd produce it so that the film could be made.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

I can't wait for this. Here are a couple of the director's shorts that got Peter Jackson interested in doing a movie with him:

I saw the trailer at the theater a few weeks ago and you could here the buzz it created in the audience. It looks like its gonna be a good one.
