Re: District 9
Went and saw it last night... Awesome!
Although I didn't think it was that gory at all. Not nearly as brutal as watchmen which I watched two days ago. I think the sister in law should be alright.
Great movie. And ya, the lead actor was fantastic.Comment

Re: District 9
Wife and I went to see it yesterday. I wanted the lead actor killed by a prawn in the beginning to put me out of my misery. I could not garner any sympathy for the lead actor, or the aliens at all.
Was looking forward to this, but it was very forgetable for us. Star Trek, loved it, this not at all.
Anybody else have a hard time understanding the South African dialect/accents?
They put closed captions of the guys who sounded "Jamaican" and I understood them completely, but the other blokes, it was hard.Comment

I didn't have a problem understanding anybody, even the people with subtitles.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: District 9
Saw this movie tonight and like most people, came away very impressed. Personally I am outraged that this movie does not have a game though, perfect video game material.
I was thinking though, If this scenario happened in real life ( Alien Refugees coming to earth) I do not think this movie would be far off from reality. My dog's butt smells like cookiesComment

Re: District 9
I really liked it, saw it tonight.
SpoilerOne part I didn't like though was when van de Mewrk and Christopher Johnson (LOL at people naming the aliens using earth names) went back to the MNU and blew a bunch of crap up to get the fluid back. I thought it was a little too Hollywood and I would have liked it more if they kept it going with the documentary-style type of film.Comment

Re: District 9
Saw it, awesome movie- gory, interesting storyline, what more could I ask for?
Best movie of the year, Blomkamp is going to be taking on some big-time projects after this film.
Random side-note: I laughed so hard during the preview for Legion at the old lady

Re: District 9
Ummm.... I don't know guys. I was pumped for this when it started being revealed. But not to the level where I had necessarilt high expectations. It just never captured me.
I mean, definitely a good performance from the lead. SFX were outstanding. But I really thought the story was just shallow and I can't explain why. I didn't feel a thing for any of the alien characters at all andSpoilerthought there were way too many incidents where the main character would have or should have been killed and the bad guys take way too long and something coincidental happens that saves him.
I just thought the movie was a little too summer blockbustery when I was expecting something a little deeper.
Still a great concept and a good movie. Probably wouldn't see it again though.Comment

Then again they had crazy weapons so it evened out.Comment

Instead of saying "Your baby is going to burn"... she says, "Your baby is going to ****ing burn!" all with a smile on her face. It's fantastic!http://flotn.blogspot.com

Re: District 9
Given that the director had amazing special effects in his even smaller budget short films, it's not entirely surprising. The guy knows how to get the best out of his shots. Peter Jackson has good eyes."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: District 9
Saw this today. I liked it. I've seen much worse in the gore department, like last night when I watched the "Rambo" that came out last year.
As I was sitting there watching the movie, I couldn't help but think about whether this was some sort of message attempting to be sent as far as real world situations. Couldn't really think of any other than numerous slum areas around some of the world's biggest cities, but they aren't filled with extraterrestrials. I also wondered whether the white-haired, bearded guy sitting two seats down from me had smoked a bunch of weed before he arrived at the theater because he reeked of it and he was laughing at parts of the movie that I didn't find funny. Anyway, in the end, I just came away with a feeling that I saw a really good movie. I enjoyed that more than "GI Joe: Rise of Cobra."Last edited by SlimKibbles; 08-16-2009, 05:29 PM.MLB: Cincinnati Reds
