I watched this for the second time a couple nights ago. One thing that really stuck out to me this time around that I didn't catch in the first viewing was how rushed the whole movie felt. It seemed like he was skinny Steve for way too long the first time but this time it felt too quick for some reason. Especially the action sequences. I know they wanted to try to put as much of the origin story in before the Avengers, but maybe they could've extended a few scenes as opposed to the entire "Dancing Monkey" sequence. I still liked the movie I just wish there was more of a build up to the fight with Red Skull. Speaking of which, that fight at the end of the movie did nothing for me as far as showcasing Red Skull's strength or Cap's skill. I guess it was the difference between pre and post Avengers that did it.Alabama Crimson Tide

The Deer Hunter - Love this movie. But I've always wonderedSpoilerwhy did stevey lose BOTH of his legs? I know he broke one badly after fallin from the evac chopper into the river and I figured perhaps it got infected...but why the other one too? and why the ENTIRE leg (both of em)which left him with basically just his upper torso?Last edited by Kanobi; 08-10-2012, 11:59 AM.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
The Thin Red Line - 9/10
Never seen a Malick movie before, and I can see why some people are completely turned off by his directing style. The slower, quieter moments in this film were, for me, excellent IMO. I knocked it down a little, as it seemed like Malick had some odd timing with some of the nature shots seemingly just thrown in. However, it gave the movie a sense of humanity and weight not usually seen in your average war film. What the slower scenes also do is make it all the more unsettling when the men are thrown into battle, particularly during the final march to the top of the hill.
This is right up there for me with Saving Private Ryan, albeit for different reasons. I was really hesitant to watch this, as very few people I know loved the movie, and most hated it. I understand why, as most probably went in thinking they were getting a similar movie to SPR. They both take place during WWII, but the similarities end there.
I'm also glad I took the chance and wound up buying the Criterion Blu Ray edition, as the video quality was outstanding. It was pricey, but well worth it.Last edited by Kearnzo; 08-10-2012, 05:07 PM.Comment

Saw The Bourne Legacy tonight and I was not impressed at all. I thought it was an extremely mediocre movie.Comment

Wife and I watched Frozen last night. Was definitely a chilling movie. Definitely a lot of parts that make you cringe for sure.
My wife actually said to me during this movie, "I'm never going on a ski lift again!" Haha.
Check it out if you haven't seen it.Comment

I will always be a drama over action guy. Just how I am. But if a film calls for some action, you damn well better get the action going.
It seemed that things were too easy or quick to resolve.
Spoiler
1. When he breaks into the facility. One guard at the door? The other guard facing the opposite direction so Cap can just sneak by? This isn't Splinter Cell.
2. The hallway blocked by the guy carrying a giant flame thrower. Captain America is big and strong but nah let's just have someone else take the guy down from behind. Really?
The only time Cap really fights is when he throws his shield around weak soilders without a clue.
I've already forgotten how the fight with Red Skull goes. Therefore, I must assume it was weak.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Saw Bourne Legacy and Total Recall.
BL was pretty good--felt like a Bourne flick. It was weird to have mentions of Jason Bourne with no Mat Damon. Was not a fan of the ending.
TR was about what I expected. Obviously it had some Inception like moments and plenty of CGI action sequences. Definition of summer action movie.Comment
