Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I learned this back in the 90's when I took myself to the theater for a day to see two films. 'Godzilla' and 'Deep Impact'.
'Godzilla' was up first. It was SOOOOOO bad. I was having a very hard time staying in my seat. Lots of facepalming. There were few in the theater and I got to the point of the movie being a joke to me. I never do this, but in the scene where Matthew Broderick is running down the hallway I bellowed out "RUN, FERRIS!! RUN!!!" (others in theater thought that was funny, luckily). Ohhh, it was painful.
I will say the ONLY reason I did not walk out on the film was I was going to see Deep Impact right after, which was exponentially better and I still like that film to this day.GO 'HAWKS!

Then I watched Man On the Moon for the first time. I enjoyed it, but it didn't really tell or show me anything new about Kaufman. It was like they acted out his Wikipedia page.Comment

Made in '99, so probably before a wikipedia page came out. But, I think you're underselling this movie. The acting job by Carey portraying Kaufman was outstanding and the move to bring back original cast members, though it was hard to not have them looked aged, was quite a testament by them, I thought.Comment

And yes, Carrey was incredible. As for Love, I just thought she was just kind of there. Nothing like her performance in the Larry Flynt movie.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 04-26-2013, 09:59 AM.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Especially with the wife giving me the two picks of movies On Demand the past weekend, I feel like I wasted one and that it'll never happen again. If I was bored, she was probably asleep during Lincoln. Great performances, presentation, etc. it was just a very slow 2 hours.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Agreed, I loved all the little cameos. I guess I just wanted more back story. Though since it was mostly his sidekick that was involved in the making of it, I can see why not much was included.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I'm a bit younger, but the first time I saw him my dad and I were watching some SNL music special they showed on NBC. They played the Mighty Mouse clip, which my dad had seen before, and he said "watch this". We both busted out laughing when he did his lip synch. My dad usually wasn't the type to laugh that hard, so I thought there must be something to this guy.Comment

Lords of Salem - I am very disappointed. I wish I can have my 1 hour and 30 minutes back. I am a huge Rob Zombie fan...The director Rob Zombie that is and not the musician because I don't like the genre of music he makes...Well back to the movie..It was boring and not scary at all. Maybe I had high expectations after watching the Devil's Rejectz and House of 1000 Corpse...This movie blows. 3.5/10Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I was able to watch a bunch of old movies while in Florida so I won't go into detail on em but you'll get the IMDB links:
The Shadow of Silk Lennox (1935) : Early Lon Chaney Jr. film and I believe it's the only gangster movie he ever did. Unfortunately, it's a very slow and boring film that barely clocks at an hour but feels twice as long. It's a dud but those interested in Chaney might want to seek it out.
Stagecoach Outlaws (1945): One of the better Buster Crabbe B movie westerns. This one really has his sidekick Al St. John playing a huge part and his history as being one of the original Keystone Cops played a big part in it with his pratfalls. It was a pretty good rollicking flick.
Leave Her To Heaven (1945): Easily the best of the four films I watched. This is a film noir.....IN COLOR! The film has a great trio of stars in Cornel Wilde, Gene Tierney and Jeanne Crain. Tierney plays a woman who falls in love with Wilde and it's pretty twisted from the start as it's basically incest through a 3rd party as Wilde looks like the spitting image of her recently departed father. Tierney's character loves Wilde to the point that she only wants his COMPLETE attention and devotion and lives in complete jealousy of others to the point that she more or less murders Wilde's disabled brother, kills her unborn baby because she can't leave the maternity room of the house and is intensely jealous of her sister (Crain) to the point that she concocts and elaborate scheme that costs her her life and sets out to ruin her sister's life forever.
The movie is a little slow to start but it builds up and packs a wallop. Gene Tierney gives a powerhouse performance in this and while the material might seem a bit farfetched they manage to make it work.
Truly a disturbing and effective film.
Renegades (1946): We go from the sublime to the (nearly) ridiculous with this Columbia western that's supposed to be serious but comes off as a cockeyed and farfetched film that based on the material should be a comedy. First of all, the hero of the film is a superman in just about every manner as a town doctor who heals the sick, gives a house to a large family of immigrants, thwarts a stage holdup and has a beautiful fiancee. The thrust of the story sees Ben Dembrow who is one of the infamous Dembrow boys trying to live a clean life and enlists the doctor's help in curing his ailing mother but his father and brothers start causing trouble which gets him sent off to jail. He basically goes back to being a bad guy and has earned the love of the doctor's fiancee whom he more or less takes with him as he and his family cause mayhem.
There are times in this movie where I thought that it couldn't get anymore sillier but then i'm totally into the action going on. It's a bit of a weird flick that way. Oh and Evelyn Keyes who plays the fiancee finds her red hair getting redder and redder as the film goes along. It's definitely surreal.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Tiny Furniture: It's literally exactly like an hour and a half long episode of Girls. Whether or not that sounds appealing to you, I don't know, but I really enjoyed it. Ends kind of abruptly though.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn
