I think whether you enjoy Cabin in the Woods or not is heavily dependant on what you're going in to the movie expecting. It's not meant to be your typical slasher/horror film; it's not supposed to be taken seriously in that sense. It's like an ode to the genre that verges on dark comedy, and I could even see how it be considered a bit satirical.
I really enjoyed it, but a couple people I watched it with just thought it was very strange. And it kinda is. It's certainly different.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Gladiator: Extended Version: Enjoyed this a lot, and liked it better than the theatrical cut. The same was also true for me with Ridley's "Kingdom of Heaven"...I'm sure quite to Ridley's 'harrumphing'; whatever. Both films are epics and are well-served by the scenes that were cut back in. Nothing wrong with an epic being a little longer.
Kudos to Joaquin Phoenix in Gladiator, he was amazing! I don't think Crowe is as good as he seems to think he is, but he's certainly good here. Richard Harris...what a great aged Caesar he was.
Jack Reacher: A fun ride, and Cruise was very solid here. I got a little distracted by having him and the great Rob Duvall together, because I couldn't STOP the 'Days of Thunder' flashbacks when they shared scenes LOL. "I'll race YOUR ***!" Ultimately though....I had forgotten I'd even watched Jack Reacher after two nights. The blonde gal who played the attorney was smokin', I will say that.
The Heat: Yep, the Bullock flick that's in theaters right now. It was actually really funny, and she still looks really good. You see this you won't believe the language, LOL. Wow. Earned it's "R" rating big time. Really entertaining buddy-cop film, and pretty cathartic if you need a laugh (which my wife and I both needed).GO 'HAWKS!

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
From a guy's perspective: Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, and that gal who plays Stacie....just wow. Not hard to look at
A very well-paced, clever film with a lot of elements you've seen before, but packaged together well here with likable characters and a lot of charm. The singing performances were all excellent.
Rebel Wilson is improv/comic gold in this as well.
My wife has a total girl crush on Anna Kendrick...I'm completely fine with thatGO 'HAWKS!

Django Unchained: Not quite as strong as Basterds, but it's still really great. The script is filled with tensity and humor, something I've come to expect with Tarantino. The acting and soundtrack were also awesome.Comment

Anyone else like "Period Pieces"? Movies like The Duelists, Barry Lyndon, etc.
Ended up watching Kingdom of Heaven, but this time the Director's Cut(story made more sense with the added scenes). Not a huge fan of Orlando Bloom, but he was alright. The actor who played Saladin was pretty good. Add in a surprising role for Ed Norton as well.Comment
