    Planet Hulk- 6.0

What is with Marvel?? Why can't they be more like D.C when it comes to their animated movies? This one was not only a bore, it was almost a chore to watch. The story was stale and the Hulk himself was very dull. I'm not a huge Hulk fan myself, but usually he's a crazy character only balanced by Bruce Banner.

I understand they wanted to show the Hulk all by his self, but he lacked the emotion we know him to have. He's a character who has no equal. He has no match when it comes to combat, the angrier he gets, the stronger he gets.

Comparing it to the D.C animated films, it fails on every level. The combat, the story and characters don't match what D.C does. D.C treats its audience with a bit more maturity than Marvel in regards to their animated films. The animated Wonder Women movie D.C. released last year in my opinion was one of the best animated films in the Marvel/D.C. era of films. To bad Planet Hulk sucks, the Hulk vs movies were much better

I watched a really GREAT western however I won't talk much about it til I watch the other two that i'm interested in today.

Needless to say i'll at least let you know what the movies are:

      Johnny Guitar (1954)
      The Baron of Arizona (1950)
      The Last Hunt (1956)
(Ok the last one isn't strictly a Western but it's not too far off the genre)

        The Book of Eli- 8.9

Fascinating movie. The story and characters were pretty well established and the overall look and feel of the movie were top notch

Love that movie.... Just rented it on a whim one day (years after it came out) and it was awesome. Might have to check it out again if I can find it on Blu-Ray

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1

First off I didn't watch the other two movies. Actually I watched some of the 2nd movie but it was a western in name only. I don't know how TCM claimed it as a western but one thing i'll say for it is that Vincent Price is worth watching the movie for even though it was tedious and felt like 90% setup with no satisfactory ending.

              HOWEVER!

              Johnny Guitar
              (1954)

              ...was one HELLUVA movie!

              First the plot summary:

Vienna has built a saloon outside of town, and she hopes to build her own town once the railroad is put through, but the townsfolk want her gone. When four men hold up a stagecoach and kill a man the town officials, led by Emma Small, come to the saloon to grab four of Vienna's friends, the Dancin' Kid and his men. Vienna stands strong against them, and is aided by the presence of an old acquaintance of hers, Johnny Guitar, who is not what he seems
That summary doesn't do justice to this movie at all. The thing is, this movie is very dense and has a lot going on that I don't want to spoil it for anyone especially anyone who likes the Western genre. The first half hour alone is one of the most engrossing half hours of film i've seen in my life. yes, it was all dialogue and character development but it was filled with tension as Emma is hellbent on getting Vienna out as well as The Dancin' Kid and his men for reasons you'll find out once watching it. Trust me there are shades of gray to the characterization. Emma doesn't want to get rid of them just because they're outlaws.

Johnny Guitar is played by Sterling Hayden who was one of the more dependable actors in Hollywood in the film noir and western genre. Here he gives a fantastic performance and shows a coolness that seems like a foreshadowing to some of Clint Eastwood's characterizations in the Man with No Name westerns and Dirty Harry. Guitar is not what he seems and is a dangerous man to anyone who crosses him while being fiercely protective and loyal to the one he loves. Even though the movie is named after the character it's not really his movie it's Joan Crawford's.

Full disclosure here but Crawford leaves me cold in a lot of the movies she's in. She was not a typical beauty and her demeanor was far too cold to pull off the charm that Tracy Hepburn showed on screen and made her more attractive then she really was. yet, these qualities that leave me cold about Crawford are perfect for the role of Vienna. She's not any man's woman. She's fiercely independent and will fight to reach a standard on the level of men. Her cold exterior makes the very emotional night time scene with Hayden more psychological then your typical 1950s "woman pledging her love" type of thing.

It is Crawford and her character that is the centerpiece of the movie and in a reversal of conventions it's not the men that truly wield the power and move the film it's the story of the two women and their actions that drive it. This movie must've been very controversial from that perspective back then.

If there's one fault I can give to this movie it's

              Spoiler
nonetheless this movie easily earns 4 1/2 stars out of 5.

I'm guessing you mean Katherine Hepburn.....since Audrey was a classic beauty.
                Spencer Tracy however.....not so much.

A Perfect Getaway-Ehh it was decent I kinda got bored throughout the movie waiting for something to happen.

. Other then that this movie was nothing special you've seen it before but pretty decent and would recommend it as a rental. I remember seeing the previews over the summer and thought it would of sucked but it was nicely done and I was surprised.

Surrogates- 6.5/10 for me. Nothing special, very predictable plot. I kept expecting more but it never came.

                        The Road.

Definitely not your "feel good" movie of the year, but acted well. The youngster did a good job.

I saw Oldboy on Sunday after reading this thread and seeing how some of you guys liked it, wow what a movie! Very interesting and well done. I did figure out the "twist" a little before the reveal but it was still enjoyable. And I don't see why folks really hate the subtitles all that much unless you're a slow reader or something.

I have watched many films that have had subtitles. It takes some time to get used to watching both the top and the bottom of the screen.
