Re: What movies have you seen recently?
100% agree on For A Few Dollars More.
It is my favorite in the “Man With No Name” trilogy.
I know The Good The Bad and The Ugly is the most popular (and it’s great too) but For A Few Dollars More has the best baddie!!! Every time he would play that little music box song….great movie.
Also for those that love Leone Westerns…check out Once Upon A Time In The West. Henry Fonda’s greatest role imo. He plays one cold blooded SOB!!!

Elvira: Mistress of the Dark
Really didn't have any idea what to expect. Elvira is a culture figure I know, but never really knew what her schtick was outside of the costume. Anyway, straight up cornball movie, but I was surprised to find myself entertained pretty much the whole time. Tons and tons and tons of innuendo and sex jokes. Most falling into roll your eyes territory, but I was still chuckling fairly frequently. This is like Footloose and Hocus Pocus with some weirder version of a Kentucky Fried Movie camp and cornball comedy going on.
Friday the 13th
Never really noticed how similar the soundtrack is to Psycho, but that was the first thing to pop into my head. Anyway, this never really disappoints to me. Some good tension throughout and then the reveal is always fun. Alice gets her **** handed to her, though. I always laugh at that. Obviously a ton of classic staples throughout. For some reason having watched this several times I've never ventured on further into the series. My Heart is a Chainsaw has me inspired, though.

Alien
I don't know how many years it has been since I saw this, but I still remembered just about everything from it. Very enjoyable, excellent directing by Ridley Scott.
Also, I got gremlin vibes seeing the baby xenomorph lol.
The one thing that did surprise me was Ripley's character. She was much less of a bad*** than I remember, though I mostly just think of Aliens when I think of the character.Comment

Michael Winslow is the best. He does crazy stuff on his stand up too. Also hilarious to know that he’s the voice for all of the Gremlins.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
My son had an Intro to Teaching project and had to watch Dead Poets Society....so we all sat down today to watch it.
I had not watched it since 1989.
I forgot how great of a movie it was. Robin Williams.....one of his very best.
Great movie to this day.Now Playing on PS5:

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Ended up watching a lot of stuff trying to reorient myself after the roller coaster of Craig's Bond run.
Casino Royale (4.5/5), Quantum of Solace (1.5/5), Skyfall (5/5), Spectre (2.5/5)
Spoiler
Bondman Begins: I feel like every time I watch this movie I go through the same process, and I must have seen it 7-8 times by now: I get so hyped for the first hour and then ask myself, IS THIS THE TIME GOLDFINGER FINALLY GETS DETHRONED?!? And then Bond sits down to play poker for 7 days and 7 nights. It is insane how long that scene lasts. This movie just feels a little long, like it ends 3 times before it really ends. You start out with the gorgeous b&w intro, the turn around gun shot into the song, which is awesome (RIP Chris Cornell), the bomb maker parkour scene is perfection. They get so much across just showing Bond rumbling, bumbling, stumbling while this guy is doing crazy stunts and landing perfectly everywhere and Bond is just a blunt instrument. Daniel Craig looks super young in this too. The bomb switcheroo, my guy Hannibal as the main villain, my girl from Banshee as his girlfriend, Eva Green, then there's poker. They play poker, Bond takes a break to beat someone's ***, gets covered in blood and takes a shower...then goes back to play poker. He gets poisoned, almost dies in his car, then goes back to play poker. WHY GOD WHY? The torture scene is brutal, it gets its point across I guess but I don't really care for it. Vesper hits him with the okey doke, at this point I'm thinking wow how long is this movie. A set piece straight out of Uncharted with the collapsing building being filled with water which I love, "job's done, the bitch is dead", epic ending introducing himself. All of this incredible action and not a single scene of it is set to the Bond theme. It's a great movie...but is it a fun movie?
Quantum of Solace: This is legit one of the most obnoxiously filmed movies I've seen in my entire life, not just Bond movies, any movie ever. I cut them some slack because it was in the middle of the writer's strike but the writing isn't even what bothers me, its the editing. The best place to see this is early in the car chase, the longest shot seriously lasts for like a half second. I defy you to watch this movie and find a shot that lasts longer than 7 seconds, it's nausea inducing. The song sucks too. There are some things I like, at one point Bond breaks into an apartment and it turns into Dead rising, he's just beating this guy's *** with anything in arms reach lol. The editing in the boat scene was so all over the place I could barely see what was happening. Strawberry Fields covered in oil is not on the same level as Jill being covered in gold but I appreciate the nod. Towards the end I like the desert setting, Bond channeling Nathan drake again and jumping out of a plane into the desert, the hotel in the middle of nowhere looks cool. This movie could really just be forgotten IMO.
The Dark Knighting: Bond is just better with Moneypenny and Q to me. I like the story of Moneypenny failing in the field and going to be M's secretary. I always love a good hack. The true stars of this movie, Sir Roger Deakins and Adele, both showed out. This is by far the best looking Bond movie, the skyscraper fight is just gorgeous. A lot of those moments, the dragon boat cruise is another. Silva is a good villain, menacing and Bond's equal, they could've cut down the scene where he introduces himself to Bond but it doesn't bother me like the poker scene for some reason. Daniel Craig with the banter, M gives a speech which is just like the one Gordon gives at the end of Dark Knight, then Silva running down on M reminds me of the Joker in the hospital. One of the few laughs in these movies is Bond threatening M with the ejector seat in the DB5, side note the DB5 scene feels like the first time the theme plays in any of these movies but I might've missed one. Silva coming through in the helicopter blaring music like Apocalypse Now, this movie just reminds me of a lot of movies that I love. Bond wins with a throwing knife, a surprisingly consistent aspect of these movies. I prefer my Bond to throw hands but I appreciate it nonetheless. Also, between Sophie Marceau, Eva Green, now Berenice Marlohe, as a Bond fan I just want to say thank you to France. Still waiting for NTTD to see if Lea gets added to the list.
The Dark Knight Falls...Again: I don't like Rises, and I don't like Spectre. Starts off good with the Day of the Dead one take, but overall this movie is just super boring, I had to stop an hour in to stop myself from falling asleep. There is a good plane sequence with Bond but I kept thinking of Mission Impossible, Tom Cruise would've flown that plane. The most boring car chase ever put on film. Bautista is cool, he only has one line and he had to put on a trash accent, but I like him in the fight, and slapping the hell out of Swann like the old days, really felt like a Bond moment. Once again, I hate torture scenes and would love if we could refrain from putting them in movies from here on out. As far as the big thing...we've gone from Fauxfeld in FYEO, to Brofeld. I've mentioned before I'm a big Austin Powers fan, and the fact that they blame the seriousness of these movies on Austin Powers making fun of Bond staples and then steal Austin and Dr. Evil's backstory is nuts. Just a complete miss. Two lines that stand out that I absolutely hate: "I am the author of all your pain" when Brofeld is explaining how he has been the puppetmaster in Bond's life, and C "How predictably moronic, but isn't that what M stands for, moron", like I think we knew what you were saying what it stood for the first time. His fall was also comical. But overall, it's just a really mediocre movie to me, I could probably rate it lower.
Rankings headed into No Time to Die, moved TWINE up because the Craig movies made me realize how much I just like a simple Bond-esque movie

Yojimbo (4/5), A Fistful of Dollars (3.5/5): Yojimbo is funnier, and I just like hand to hand/sword combat over guns, it's cooler. The music is great in both, but I've give the nod to Yojimbo. Same with the lead, both great, but Mifune has more ground to cover. I had an uncle that used to torture us by forcing us to watch Westerns so that probably has a part in it. I also just realized the dubbing in Fistful is nuts. Seeing on the wiki page that it was filmed in silence and sounds were added after the fact made a lot of sense. Yojimbo also seems to have a lot of themes, whether it's worth it to live long and poor or short and rich, the end of the samurai, even just the fact that they think they can trust Sanjuro and he's really mostly out for himself in the end. Both good movies, but as Kurosawa told Leone, "you've made a fine movie, but it's my movie". Still going to watch Sanjuro and a Few Dollars More.
North by Northwest (4/5): Had always heard about this being "the first Bond movie" but had never seen it. I can definitely see the influence, overall its definitely not as action oriented as Bond but the two big set pieces are pretty great, the plane and Rushmore. The dialogue is awesome, Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint are great, and the villain really is a Bond prototype. It's like Hitchcock made a movie where Don Draper is mistaken for James Bond, and hijinks ensue. Also, was my first Hitchcock movie so that's cool.
Going into hibernation until Wednesday night because these lunatics have decided we need a 163 minute Bond movie, 53 minutes longer than the GOAT. My first complaint about it will 100% be the runtime, but I hope it's the only one. Early reviews are good, but my boys at /r/JamesBond are not impressed. I'm excited though.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
The Craig movies definitely did well with the Bond girls. It’ll be interesting to see how they handle Bond with a girlfriend. I’ve also been finding all of the could’ve been Bond songs like Radiohead and Judas Priest’s Spectre and heard the song Shirley Bassey made around Quantum. It would’ve been great to see her back.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Craig’s films have been every other. I hope thrpattern stays true and No Time To Die sends him off in spectacular fashion.
I finally got around to seeing Spectre and it had so much potential to be great. But between the action scenes.....it was pure boredom. And not enough Christof!!!! Anyway....it was certainly a lot better than Solace.....but that is not saying a lot. The bar was on the floor with that one.
As bad as Live Or Let Die or Diamonds Are Forever are....I still can watch them for their camp and charm. Not Solace. Pure dreck.
I see Diehard.....you never revisited the pseudo remake of Thunderball in Never Say Never Again!!! LOL! Talk about baaaaaaaaaad. That was just really really bad.Connery looked like a grandfather in that one with a young hot Kim Basinger.

I thought about it, but couldn’t find the Blu-ray anywhere. I also think it would make me hate the Moore movies even more because Connery was supposed to be playing an old Bond, but he’s younger than Roger Moore lol.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it
