What movies have you seen recently?

Fellowship of the Ring Extended Edition (4 [hours]/5)

You think you have a good understanding of how time works, and then you sit down for a 4 hour movie. It’s how I imagine Goku felt in the hyperbolic time chamber. I just finished the book the other day, and consider myself an expert on the first hour of this movie because I used to use it as a sedative on Christmas Eve, but this is my first time seeing the entire thing. There were a lot more changes from the book than I expected but I liked them because I didn’t love the book. They spend half the book calling Aragorn “Strider” and I’m like just call him Aragorn, what are we doing here? I also was waiting in the book for “YOU SHALL NOT PASS” and it doesn’t happen, he just keeps saying “You cannot pass”. Boromir is also kinda an ******* in the book, and he’s played like a much better dude in the movie. The end is also different, which I feel like Peter Jackson spoiled some of the Two Towers book for me so thanks for that.

Good movie, with a solid ending. The ending was a big part of why I wanted to watch because the end of the book is not super satisfying, and the end of Dune was less than satisfying to me, so I wanted to see how they pulled this off and the answer was just change it so Denis has no excuse. I think what I knew from the movies definitely affected my reading experience so I’m kinda curious like how people who went back and read the Harry Potter books felt after watching the movies first. A movie adaptation better than the book, I never thought I’d see the day.

Midnight Run down. Still as fun as I remember. De Niro is great, Grodin plays off him well. Yaphet Kotto and Denis Farina have their moments, but John Ashton's character stole the show for me whenever he was on screen.

Always liked that the movie could flip from

Oh man. Guessing this will be the first time watching Two Towers? Enjoy man. Those movies have literally gotten better every single time that I have watched them, and Two Towers was always my favorite. Also, not a huge fan of the Fellowship of the Ring book. I've tried to read it a dozen times, but when you think about the pacing vs the first movie it is just shocking how little happens in the book for such a long time. It was interesting to see some of the additional characters that were left out of the movie though. It added a bit to the world building of Middle Earth.

It's been years since I have read Harry Potter, but I read all of them both before and after the movies. I enjoyed the first 2 movies, but none of the movies hold a candle to the books. Not that Harry Potter is some literary masterpiece, but it's definitely one of those occasions where you notice a lot of things omitted in a movie or changed altogether to make it easier to fit the story inside of a 2.5 hour box.

Leprechaun in the Hood is way more funny and entertaining than it has any right to be as a direct to video release. Also cracks me up seeing everyone in Lugz gear. The good old days lol.

Will have to check those out.

I honestly wouldn't put Tales From The Hood in the bad movies category with the others. It actually holds up well for a 25 year old movie, and has some interesting ideas. The way it mixes social commentary with horror, wish fulfillment and comedy is pretty unique. The ending is straight up goofy as hell, but it never reaches the level of dumb that the Leprechaun movies do.

The Two Towers Extended Edition (5/5)

Epic both in runtime and in quality. A much less exhausting watch than Fellowship despite being longer. I actually liked the book, but mixing up the storylines is definitely the best way to tell this story and it kinda makes me wonder if a fan has recut the book in the way of the movie. Aragorn is the man, and going between Helm's Deep and the Ents wrecking Isengard is just awesome. I wish I had seen this before Game of Thrones because I remember the comparisons then but didn't know what they were talking about. A 4 hour movie that I know I will watch again is quite a feat. The best compliment I can give this movie is I never wanted to call Saruman Count Dooku...but on the other side of that coin, I was waiting for Elrond to put on sunglasses and say "MISTER ANDERSON" and the head elf that comes to help at Helm's Deep definitely looks like Lucious Malfoy. I couldn't believe that wasn't him but it's also been a while since I've seen the HP movies. Also found out that the Aragorn Arwen stuff is apparently in the appendix for Return of the King so I guess I'll have to make sure I read all the way through it. No Shelob or Gandalf scaring Saruman into staying in his tower so maybe those are in Return of the King.

                  Injustice (1.5/5)

On the movie itself: People seem to really hate the animation style, I don't like it, for lack of a better term it feels very static, like they didn't have the budget to move everything at once, but I don't hate it. I also was not a fan of Britta as Harley Quinn, just didn't sound right to me.

                  On the Injustice storyline:

Not much to say, incredible movie. WHAT'S IN THE ****ING BOX?!? Brad Pitt is great in this. And Kevin Spacey's bag being deceptive, creepy characters is unsurprising looking back. Bro is undefeated in his scumbag...bag. I'm about to get on a Fincher run starting with...Aliens 3? I guess it's about time I watched this again anyway.

Fincher is an interesting director. His remake of "The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo" is solid with Craig and Mara, kinda prefer the original.

I’ll watch both then. I’ve seen and liked Aliens 3, Fight Club, and The Social Network but never looked into him. It’s wild that he went from directing music videos to his first feature being a new entry in such a huge franchise, but it was also the beginning of the end so I’m sure there’s a story there.

It was less than a year ago when I rewatched this entire trilogy, and your posts are making me want to sink another 12 hours into it soon.

The battle at Helms Deep is truly one of the most epic moments in movie history. Well, it's not really a moment is it? The whole sequence lasts like 40 minutes.

Watched a couple of "horror" movies over the weekend.

The Descent - The second half of that movie was pretty nuts. Some pretty gruesome stuff in there. First half had more jump scares. Second half was more of an action thriller. Overall, I think it was a pretty good horror movie. Not one I'll feel the need to come back to or watch the sequel or anything, but fairly entertaining.

Midsommar - The cinematography and use of music and sound were beautiful, but the movie wasn't actually good IMO. It obviously borrowed a lot from The Wicker Man and the characters weren't really believable to me despite some great acting performances.

                                Prisoners (5/5)

So Wolverine and the OG War Machine, who is married to Amanda Waller, are friends, and one of each of their kids go missing. Wolverine thinks The Riddler kidnapped them. When they call the police, Mysterio (whose name is Loki) is assigned to the case. At one point Wolverine is talking to the Riddler and actually says "come on man, no more riddles". But

SIKE, it wasn't him either! Great performances from Jake Gyllenhall and Hugh Jackman, Paul Dano is elite at getting his *** beat on camera, he should be great in The Batman. Jake's obsession with the case reminded me of when Prez wanted to help Dookie after he left his grade and the principal told him "These aren't your kids". Love the ending. In Denis I trust. Dune is the worst movie of his I've seen and I still liked it a lot.

                                Eternals (3/5)

It's a Marvel movie with an extra 30 minutes tacked on. They basically turned what could've been the best Marvel limited series into another mediocre Marvel movie. It's basically The Old Guard mixed with Invincible with some Venom sprinkles for the deviants. I will say the movie is as beautiful as it is long, which is to say it looks amazing, I can't think of another Marvel movie that would compete. The look of the celestials is awesome, the deviants are not a high point in the movie and honestly could've been taken out altogether and probably should have but they look good for what they are, all of the powers look cool...Remember when Justice League came out and we all said they should've done solo movies first? This is basically Marvel doing the same thing except there's no way they could've gotten off solo movies for these no name characters. There are 10 Eternals, enough said. Another thing I liked (minus the Hiroshima foolery) is the way they weaved the stories into actual history like the way they explain the Icarus story. The normal Marvel humor had like a 20% hit rate for me, just wasn't feeling it. Jon Snow and Robb Stark both proclaiming their love for Sersi has to be one of the oddest mixes of storytelling and casting ever in movie history. The CG in the first post credits scene is also a mess which felt weird after the movie as a whole looked so good.

Me watching the trailer: Is Marvel going to do Superman better than DC?
