After Yang, Fresh, and Turning Red are all varying degrees of good. I went into Turning Red blind and when the mom is talking to her daughter hiding in the bathroom I was like “ohhhhh Turning Red!” [emoji23]

Great set design and cinematography, the movie looks great. The part where they sing America was cool. Pretty good as far as musicals go but I'm just not big on them so there's a ceiling.

      The Batman

I'm going to watch some reviews and let someone talk me off the ledge because as of this moment, I want to flame the hell out of this movie man. An hour too long, I specifically went to see it in the morning so I didn't fall asleep and I almost did anyway, the riddles are trash. Zoe as Catwoman is great, Gotham looks great (Gotham Square Garden, you already know the vibes). I honestly might owe Nolan an apology after this. I've been flaming Dark Knight Rises for years and now I feel like I'd rather watch that again than this. I do not like sad Bruce Wayne. Batman is already an inherently dark character, you don't need to make him a reclusive shut-away to get that across. Half the fun is seeing him fake the funk and act up in public. There's a point when Catwoman has a red wig on and I felt like that was the first time in the whole movie I had seen some color, Dune-esque with the color palette. When people started comparing it to Zodiac I knew I should've been worried. I think I'm going to have to Blzer my way into these movies in the future, so much of the best stuff was in the trailer.
Just a question, have you read the New 52 zero year Batman comics? Pattinsons Batman is almost like that. Bruce Wayne is a recluse and wants nothing to do with the Bruce Wayne persona. I believe that's where Reeves got the feel for this Batman.

No, I read (and watched) Year One, and I’ve read but not yet seen The Long Halloween movies, not a big comic reader, always been more of an animated series and game fan. I think as I get older I just like the Batman character less and less. He plays well in video games but the more “real” they want to make these movies the harder some of the rough edges are to get around. I’ll check out the run you mentioned and see what’s up though.

Roxanne starring Steve Martin and Daryl Hannah. Not as good as I remember. Some scenes were a little cringeworthy and/or unauthentic. Plus the nose was repugnant.

No, that comic series ran in 2013. Basically followed Batman when he first started being Batman. To me, the movie kind of resembled that type of Batman and him not really wanting to be Bruce Wayne in the public's eye.

Last weekend I watched the latest 2 Spider-Man movies. Iron Man is my favorite Marvel series but Spider-Man has become a close second for some reason.

                  Heat (4.5/5), Collateral (4.5/5), Thief (4/5)

"Yesterday was empathy. Today you're wasting my mother****ing time." "Yo homie, that my briefcase?" Michael Mann is that guy. A friend was surprised I'd never seen Heat because of how influential it was on The Dark Knight, told me to turn my TV all the way up when they start walking out of the bank. I might be deaf and my neighbors probably hate me, but it was totally worth it. It should be Hollywood law that no one can use guns in a movie unless Mann does the sound mixing, they're so loud in the way that they should be. I love that he isn't afraid to make his movies about what they're about. This is a movie about heists, you need to see the entire bank robbery and shootout, second by second. This movie is about a thief, you need to see every second of trying to burn through to this safe. Grey haired Tom Cruise is a demon. Heat is a little bloated, and I wish Collateral had ended differently, but I loved both of them and Thief is great as well. I was reading about how Heat was shot completely on location and you can tell. Also was reading it couldn't be made today because they'd never let you run around downtown LA doing mag dumps or running around LAX like that, so I'm glad they did it while they still could. Shoutout to the actors for putting in the work too, James Caan had to learn how to really crack safes, Val Kilmer spent so much time training with machine guns apparently they use the scene of him reloading and popping back up in certain trainings, same with Tom Cruise letting it off on the guys trying to mug him. All of it made the movies feel so much more real. Manhunter, Last of the Mohicans, and Miami Vice on deck.

In Heat the guns sound mixing is so good and done on location, that years ago I was watching some breaking news coverage on CNN of a terrorist attack in France and the police was still searching for the perpetrators through out a city/residential neighborhood. The thing is you could hear gunshots going off in the background with the echo and I got this sudden sensation that I had heard very similar gunshots somewhere somehow but I said to myself "the heck are you talking about, you haven't been on a warzone "

About 30 minutes later it hit me, those real gunshots that I was hearing through my TV sounded EXACTLY like

I was in awe. It took my appreciation for the movie and its famous sound mixing to another level, if that's even possible when you take into account that Heat has long been considered the gold standard for guns sound mixing.

Immanence - I give it a 7 out of 10. I like movies that get straight to the point and don't last longer than it should, this is that kind of movie.

Exorcism of God - 7 out of 10. An exorcist movie with a twist at the end that I didn't expect.

                            Nobody.

A surprisingly deep action movie with good acting, nice fight sequences, and a decent story.

I really enjoyed this one, but I love action movies. So with that said it get an 8/10 from me.

                              The Rock

I can't remember the last time that I watched this movie, but it was every bit as good as I remembered it.

I did find it kind of funny watching Nicolas Cage in this though. It was an interesting reflection of my memory of him as there was a point in time (when I was younger) that I thought he was a really good actor. That opinion has certainly changed over the years, but this movie came out around the same time as Con Air, Face Off and City of Angels. A very successful run of success for an actor. Watching him in The Rock this time through it was clear just how much Sean Connery and Ed Harris carried this movie. I suspect if I were to re-watch Face/Off then I would feel similarly with Travolta carrying that one as well.
