Gonna check that out. The Caine Mutiny is one my favorites of the old classics, but I haven't seen much Bogey outside of that, Sahara and of course Casablanca.

I just saw The Goods. It was a pretty stupid movie, but also pretty hilarious as well.

Just finished watching Soul Men on blu ray. It was pretty good, a little raunchy but what can you expect with Samuel L. and (the late) Bernie Mac. Probably 2 1/2 stars...kept me entertained.

Also, caught Superbad in HD on Directv. Love that movie. Instant classic.

          Next up: The Code

It's already out on Blu-ray? I was questioning its release date a couple of days ago but figured it was coming out later this month or so.

I have to admit that with the synopsis it creates a story from, the movie tends to be a little too slow at parts. It will be one of those movies that I'm not going to be putting in my system too often, but I know I have a bunch of friends that I want to show it to on separate occasions (and family).

If you needed any effort to understand that movie then that says alot about you.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Very epic minutes, and I find it interesting how many many people find time to point out "unrealistic elements" that wouldn't make the story go and resolve as it does. I say to hell with that because it's a damn good movie and Crowe gives his character stronger antagonistic appeal with the story given.

And of course, I always enjoy watching Bale on screen, and he didn't disappoint yet again.

Monsters vs Aliens- Good, solid movie but I think I went into it expecting too much so I left a little let down. I will buy it when it hits blu-ray as animated films tend to look outstanding in HD but it wont be a first day purchase.

The Code was a decent bank robbing flick. Always been a big fan of Morgan Freeman. Fairly good blu ray transfer. Can't comment on the audio though.

I'll just get the original. I hate Keanu Reeves anyway unless he's Ted.

I am so glad I follow this thread. I have seen movies I would have never heard of.

Tendrils, I finally got around to watching Memento (long Netflix cue), a movie you mentioned several pages back. Very good movie. Probably need to see it again to get the end better.

SPTO, your passion for older cinema has me going to AMC and TCM. Two channels I normally skip over.

Blzr, the way you can analyze a movie and appreciate the graphic presentation gives me a different view of movies I watch.

                            Very educational thread.

Now, three movies I watched over the weekend, Wargames (your typical 80's nuclear holocaust movie). Always fun to watch those movies with my son. It blows him away seeing how far our technology has come regarding computers.

The next movie was Memento, as mentioned above. Couldn't doze on that movie.

Finally watched For the Love of the Game for the millionth time. One of my top 10 movies (would be higher if there were no Kelly Preston scenes). Vin Scully made that movie for me. The greatest line, "The cathedral that is Yankee Stadium belongs to Chappell." That is a line he would come up with on the spot in a real game.

Just saw Extract, was ok...Mila Kunis' role could've had more substance to it...

Hammerhunker glad I could get you to at least take a peek at some older cinema. I admit the stuff I watch is not for everyone of this generation but if it can help some people to at least take a look at an older movie once in a great while then it's all good.

Anyways today I watched an interesting little movie. I won't go on with a long drawn out review because this is one of those movies you kinda have to see to believe. It's a low rent knock off of You Can't Take it With You (1938) (Great movie BTW) which was a vehicle for Ann Sheridan and included Humphrey Bogart. Bogie doesn't do too much in it but it's definitely a different kind of film for him as it has a stage comedy feel to it. Anyways the movie is called It All Came True (1940) Here's a synopsis for the movie:

Nightclub entertainer Sarah Ryan and songwriter Tommy Taylor move in to the boardinghouse run by their mothers Maggie and Norah. Tommy brings along Mr. Grasselli, a "nervous wreck" who keeps to himself.. Sarah recognizes him as the gangster Chips Maguire. He killed a cop with Tommy's gun, so Tommy must now protect him. Grasselli winds up turning the boarding house into a money-making nightclub.
Bogart plays Grasselli and Sarah Ryan is played by the aforementioned Ann Sheridan. This movie is chock full of great character actors. There is some good humor in the movie especially with the high strung sheltered Miss Flint played by Zazu Pitts. The movie also has one of my favorite character actors of all time in Felix Bressart as the washed up Great Boldini who's shown up by his dog Fanto!

The only knocks against this movie I have is that the beginning is a little slow and the ending was too musically heavy (sometimes the music in these movies just don't go over well IMO) but other then that it's a fun little movie that gives viewers an idea of how Bogart was like in his stage days and you get to see some great actors having fun with their parts.

                                2 1/2 stars out of 5
