Cabin Fever 2 - Sickening. I liked it. Doubt I'll ever drink punch at a party again though.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Did not get to watch Bad Teacher. Sold out on free movie night. (No surprise).
Instead I watched Tree of Life.
Uh, wow. I do not expect many people I know to like this film at all. It is one of the quietest films I've ever seen with exception to a really moving instrumental soundtrack.
Brad Pitt is great in this and you will hate him. Makes you forget he's Brad Pitt. All of the main actors with exception to Sean Penn who seems more like just a cosmic figure in the film (more on this in a bit) play their roles beautifully.
But that's about where I put this film: It's a beautiful looking film. I don't think anyone will feel the need to add anything else to that statement. There's no real action, suspense, thrills, laughs. It's a lot of nothing, really. It just happens. It's as if you're just following the life of this child as he grows up with an overbearing father. Yet the two hardly speak. It's mostly long, uncomfortable silences.
What hurts the film is the beginning and end. I think the middle part - the actual story - will grab people. A lot is going on even if there isn't anything really happening but watching someone grow up. Everyone in the theater was caught in that beauty. However, the beginning and end resulted in laughter from many in the audience. It was just way out there. People were at the point that they couldn't really understand the purpose.
OK, there is a purpose to the beginning and end, but no one is coming to this film to watch a History Channel documentary on the Universe. I mean, there are planets forming, cells combining and...hmm, uh, there are dinosaurs. None of this really spoils the film to reveal in a review. It's all very interesting in an out-there kind of way but isn't very interesting if you wanted to see a story.
If you can picture the beginning being the beginning of time and the middle being the growing up then the ending doesn't take much imagination.
Anyway, if you can sit through the first 20 minutes of this film (a few in the theater left and missed the very good middle portion of this film) then you'll be in for a nice treat. Anything giving this film its amazing RT rating has to be based on the main story which is beautiful. Then once you see Sean Penn again in the ending scene (won't be hard to pick up on ) you can leave. It is another 10 minutes of too much.
To think that the director of this film says he has a 6 hour cut he wants to release. 6 hours! Watching the 2 hour plus version of this in theaters and I can tell you that I'm absolutely sure he has 6 hours of footage. It really is like watching someone grow up in front of your eyes.
RT's very simple blurb: Terrence Malick's singularly deliberate style may prove unrewarding for some, but for patient viewers, Tree of Life is an emotional as well as visual treat.
Couldn't say it much better than that. It won't be for many, but if you're patient to sit through some weird stuff, you're in for a very good emotional story.Last edited by CMH; 06-29-2011, 08:52 AM."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. That movie is just stomach turning. The first one was actually pretty good to me. But the 2nd one may be one of the grossest I've ever seen.Twitter

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Posted this in the Transfomers thread:
Just got back from seeing the movie, went to the 3D showing as well. The movie was started at 8:15 and ended at 11:10 WTF i didn't expect it to be that long.
For the record, i thought it was much much better than The Fallen, i really thought that movie was terrible!!!!!!!!! However it sort of follows in the same problems. Even though i love nice lengthy movies, i felt like they could of at least cut out 30 mins of the movie. The action was fine but i thought it went a bit too long.
Now here starts the fun:SpoilerMy biggest gripe with not only this movie but with all of the Transformer movies, is the fact that they're so easy to take down; especially amongst themselves. I know they're robots and all but they take each other out with 2-3 hits. It was easily apparent in this movie towards the last half hour when the battle broke out. I know Prime is a badass but he goes around ripping other transformers to shred in mere seconds. For highly advanced robots, you would think their bodies would be reinforced to take more than 2 hits.
Now WTF was with Megatron. He was a former shadow of himself. I liked his look with the scarf around him, sort of reminded me of a Jedi and i even took in the decaying effect happening around his head. But wow they did under-use him. For this movie being the last in the series and the big finale, Megatron whose been the adversary for sometime now went out much too quickly (going back to my previous argument about how easy it is for them to take each other out) and barely had any screen time.
I also found it sort of funny how they brushed off Megan Fox's character so easily. For someone who was involved in two big efforts to save the planet and know all this secret information, they brushed her over like she was nothing.
Well after my minor complaints, the movie was definitely worth a watch. I'm not sure if the 3D was worth it though. It didn't feel or bring anything to the table. With all the action going on, i would of loved to see a couple things thrown at the screen. It did certainly have that "Avatar" affect of being 3D in its own world. Not sure how to explain it correctly but in Avatar the 3D worked to bring the entire movie sort of closer to your face rather then pop out at you in a way.
The sound track was also pretty good. I love the track they played as the Auto-bots were taking off, it was perfect for the moment, nice and slow paced. Overall movie was pretty good.

I Saw the Devil- Great movie and crime thriller about revenge. Lead actors were excellent. It is very violent and grusome but it is not your typical cheap torture movie.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Watched The Mechanic and Arthur today.
The mechanic was the usual Jason Statham movie. Fair bit of action and fairly simple but a decent time waster. 7/10
Arthur was terrible imo. I can only take Russell Brand in small doses and despite a pretty decent supporting cast (Helen Mirren, Jennifer Garner etc) it was just lame. 2/10Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I won't even watch Arthur and I agree about Brand. I think it's just a good time to be British and acting; it just has an appeal right now. It just appeals to the viewers lately. Nothing will outshne the original.
Disagree about the Mechanic. I thought it was much better than his over the top Transporter garbage.
Recently saw Battle: Los Angeles. It had me then lost me.
Also saw Russell Crowe in The Next Three Days. Not too bad.Comment
