I think Natalie was 12 in that movie. It had been my favorite role of hers until Black Swan.

Gary Oldman really is a bad-*** in that movie. He is a complete lunatic in a legit job with power and he sells it.

Damn that is impressive if she was only 12, truly a great performance. Yeah Oldman was awesome, just captured that crazy volatility like he could go off at any moment so well that it made even scene with him in it really tense. Good stuff...

Nah, seriously, whatever it is, I guess I'm just in the 10% that didn't agree with it. It's a weird place to be. Usually not on the wrong end of the audience's overwhelming thoughts behind a film.

I do agree with what most people liked about it though: style, music, mood, direction. All that stuff was great.

So I watched Vantage Point last night and that made me feel better. (Not that it was great or anything).
I've got you Mr. President.....wah wahhhhh...people groaned after the 4th flashback in the theater i was in for Vantage Point. Awful movie.

On to Drive. I enjoyed it. Going in, I hadn't seen any previews for it, and I had only read briefly what it was about. It was pretty good. I wanted to see more of Drivers night life though as he seemed to have a lengthy history of doing that kind of work and he seemed to enjoy it. Surprisingly violent as well. Was a bit anxious when Driver was shaking down the first bad guy.

Saw it today and I agree...the 3D was incredibly pointless but damn if I didn't get chills multiple times during the movie. Probably in my Top 5 all time.

                Harsh Times

Let me preface this by saying that Christian Bale is the only reason I wanted to watch the film, and is the only reason I remained interested in the film.

David Ayer is the king of writing and directing films that are all exactly the same with different actors, though this isn't a bad thing. Training Day and Street Kings are both films that I own on Blu-ray, which involve an undercover/off-duty cop driving around the ghetto portions of East L.A., busting up drug dealers.

This film has a little more diversity than just this, as the "harsh times" are dealing a lot with seeking employment, among other things (involving marital issues and what not). This was a kind of film that had a bit of emotional tact, but they didn't really give us enough reason to care for the characters in the opening act. Throughout the film, it was a bit like the Kenan and Kel show... just hope that the duo characters coast easily and don't **** anything up, and everything should be okay. I'm not saying that stupidity kicks in, but plot development kicks in, and things go haywire for them.

This film had much less gun violence than the other two films, and that was okay with me. C.B. acted this film well, kind of like a Vato who can't quite find out who he most wants to identify himself with: his career, or his family.

Yeah, I kind of went backwards writing this. I don't really have much else to say.

I saw Source Code and it reminded me of this. My wife started getting annoyed...same as Vantage Point.

Recent movies have been Thor and X-men First Class. Both were just OK. I guess I'm burned out on the comic book movies. When Ironman came out, it was unique and fresh.

Really an excellent movie I own it on dvd and hope it gets a blu-ray release at some point. The movie I seen recently was X-Men First Class and I really enjoyed it well done.

I took the wife out last night to watch Contagion. It was a very good film. If you're a germophobe I suggest you pass on it.

                          Moneyball

I am very pleased to hear that the critics and masses have enjoyed this film. Before this, Billy Beane's story has only been novelized, and not widely recognized by a larger audience. They definitely simplified things for everybody to appreciate it, as opposed to just making it a stat junkie kind of film.

A little bit like Crazy Heart or The Wrestler, it felt more like a "documentary on film" when it came down to what was showcased and what was discussed. It was almost like a scripted reality show (gee, how redundant lol) but with professional camera work. They sacrificed Hollywood-like production for conversational talk between the guys in the office and the players.

It likely won't convert people to become fans of baseball, the Oakland Athletics, or sabermetrical analysis... but it's a damn fine true story told on film that anybody would be pleased to see unfold.

By the way, hand them a Best Editing nom, stat.

                          Drive

It probably should've been called Bleed.

The entire time watching this, unless saw the U.S. Bank Tower, I always got this Vice City feeling while watching it, kind of like a Miami 80s vibe going on with it, which was more than likely intentional.

It was very stylish, moody, and knew what kind of story it wanted to tell. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if I enjoyed any of their intents. Yeah, the good scenes were good. Even long, silently progressive scenes left a good taste in my mouth. Though overall, it was just a weird story. I didn't know if this was going to kind of be like The Transporter, Gone In Sixty Seconds, or something like that. I still don't understand Ryan Gosling's character, and all that goes on in his mind.

Worst yet... where's the fuzz? Yeah, they show up in the first scene, and they're present in the world around them, but barely. You knew who the authority was in this film, and it was in the hands of simple-minded crooks, not the people wearing the badges.

I gotta read the spoilers that people were writing about with this film, but so far I'm looking at this movie more like how CMH was. It makes me wonder what it really takes to come up with a screenplay in cinema. Again, there were good scenes... but in the grand scheme of things, I think they told about 60% of a story.

                            Frozen

As far as movies I've seen, think Vertical Limit meets Saw. Three friends are stuck on a ski lift in the frozen tundra.

It's gripping from start to finish, and it's nice getting these "no idea how it will end" kind of films. Not that there is necessarily a twist, but there is no saying what it is they'll come up with.

Unlike most films of this genre, this is one that is legitimately concerning for anyone who rides one of these lifts, and under certain circumstances is absolutely plausible. I imagined myself being one of them the entire time, no matter what it is they thought or went through.

A highly recommended 90 minute feature, especially if you can catch it free On Demand like I just did.

Well, i'm about 500 years late, but I just watched the first 3 Die Hard films this weekend for the first time. I'd seen bits and pieces of each, but never any of them in there entirety.

Loved the first, and really liked Die Harder and With a Vengeance. All great flicks. I'm a big fan of Live Free or Die Hard as well, so it looks like i'll be picking up the Die Hard Blu Ray pack in the future.
