I just watched Drive, and holy ****, I can't say enough good about this movie. Cinematically, it was beautiful. I loved the art direction, the colors, the lighting, the shots, just perfect. The movie sounded better than just about any movie I've ever seen. Like, the experience I had watching it justified the money I spent on a sound system. The sound track was excellent. The blend of silence with the 80s style soundtrack was superb. The acting was as good as I could ask for, and the story really sucked me in from the beginning. I borrowed the Blu-ray from a friend, but it's safe to say I'm picking it up tomorrow.

Tower Heist. I thought a combo of Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy would be great, but "decent" about sums it up. A robbery movie that wasn't all that funny. Not terrible though.Comment

Drive is a fantastic movie.
I think I've watched the blu-ray at least 5 times already. My wife thinks I'm nuts. She's walked in the house a few times and heard the music from Drive blaring through the surround sound. She's responded with "You're watching Drive again?"
Yes. Yes I am."You got it man. I don't watch hockey." SidVish"I thought LeBron James was just going to be another addition to help me score."

Girl with The Dragon Tattoo
I though this was an excellent movie if a bit muddled here and there. The mystery was handled pretty well but I had an inkling of who the serial killer was. The whole deal with the original reason Craig's character was looking into all that stuff didn't impress me too much. (won't give it away) There are a couple things I thought could've been fleshed out though like just WHY is Lizabeth (the girl with the dragon tattoo) is so effed up. Yeah they say she's a ward of the state and lived a hard life but c'mon. I'm also no clear how someone with such status could become such a genius computer hacker, master of disguise and generally being a not very nice person.
At least I've now heard there's a Swedish movie as well as the book to look out for so maybe they can flesh things out. I really liked the characterization of Henrik and his rather um, crazy, dysfunctional family and hope they get more time and focus in the other movie and book.
Overall I give this about 8 out of 10. I thought the ending of the movie was a bit overlong as well, still Craig does a great job in his role and I enjoyed it.
I did see the American version and I must say I was pleasantly surprised they didn't do a hack job on it. It was also great. And dare I say, MORE gruesome/explicit/edgy than the Euro versionComment

You know how some movies aren't as good as you remember them?
Like movies you watched when you were a kid, then watch them again when youre older and realize they aren't that great?
The Pagemaster
IS NOT one of those movies.
Damn that movie is awesome.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I saw The Adjustment Bureau last night and WOW! That movie blew my doors off. It's basically a love story but with elements of hm, I guess sci-fi/philosophy? Either way I thought Matt Damon was quite good and the the whole idea of free will being manipulated through a "master plan" is an intriguing one. I think i'll have to read the short story that the movie is based off of.
Wonderful stuff if you haven't seen it.

(500) Days of Summer. Good movie - some interesting scenes.
I like Levitt a lot as an actor, lately. I always remember him as that dorky kid from 3rd Rock, but he kind of disappeared and then came back with a vengeance. Guy is great. I'll say it - I came away more impressed with him in Inception than I did with Leo; and Leo was amazing as usual.Comment

The Rum Diary
Johnny Depp movie. I wasn't exactly sure what this movie was going for. I was completely lost, like it had almost no point.
Still it made me laugh quite hard a few times. And whoever the girl was, was absolutely smoking hot. 3/5Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Invincible is a good one if you don't really know who Papale is. In other words, I think a lot of people would say either he's not a man worth making a movie out of, or Disney went too "magical" with his story and decided not to mix in the nitty-gritty with the film. I very much like it, though.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Spoilerthey we dragging the car down the side of the building over the thanks giving day parade and no one even noticed
Also can someone explain how a bunch of motel staff with no connections to people in high places were able toSpoilerchange the court date for Alan Alda's character? Was that even explained how they did that and maybe I just missed it?
Anyway overall it was very disappointing and I'm a fan of Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy so it was a bit of a let down. 1.5/5 from me.Last edited by Jonesy; 02-19-2012, 09:39 PM.Comment
