Just finished watching Memento. MIND ****INGLY GOOD. It's not as confusing as Inception initially was (or still is), but I feel like the ambiguity in this movie is executed better. The non-linear narrative really kind of puts you in Leonard's shoes -- you're figuring and remembering things at the same "time" he is -- and it just puts the movie in a whole 'nother level.

I now understand why most say this is Nolan's best film to date. Definitely gonna watch this multiple times.

So Oscar, why haven't you blessed Nolan with your statue yet?

      21 Jump Street

Damn funny in spots, not funny in others. It's pretty good. Worth your time. Maybe because I kept hearing how awesome it was it left me expecting more, I don't know.

The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford

For the twelfth or so time. And each time I watch it I'm reminded why I consider it one of my top 2 or 3 favorite movies of all time. It's perfect.

Especially with a good sound system. The soundtrack is incredible.

Just saw "The Rise of the Planet of the Apes" 2011

I didn't know it existed and since I like science fiction it was a pleasant surprise. I really liked it a lot! I like Franco as an actor, in fact all of the actors were quite good in this, and the animation/cinematronics/CGI was good and convincing for the most part and eerily well done.

I love when stuff like that happens, it's not my fav movie of all time or anything, but how cool is it when you stumble on something cool that you SHOULD have known about, watch it and enjoy it! Its like finding a 20 in a pair of pants or something! I recommend watching it if you haven't.

Local discount theatre had Spider-Man this weekend. Enjoyable and the altered Peter Parker did a great job. The depiction of The Lizard was a tremendous effect in showing his sheer brute force, but I still hold Doc Ock in the 2nd one above this villian overall. However, the battle scenes were top notch and it was easy to see they were going for some of those classic Spidey poses from the comics. I think Leary was okay, but not sure about his casting in that role. I'd like to see him in some type of gangster flick.

A sci-fi fan who didn't hear about the new Planet of the Apes movie?

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I've seen three movies recently, but can't remember what one of them actually was. When I recall, I'll be sure to let you know.

                  Straw Dogs

I didn't expect much out of it, and out didn't come much from my expectations. James Marsden played a bit out of his element by being the main character that's kind of belittled by everyone else (so he couldn't just go Cyclops on their asses if he wanted to), and Kate Bosworth in a southern accent is not always my favorite combination. It has a slow progression into its final resolve, and then dies into the ending credits.

I thought I recalled that this film was slightly known for its realistic sense of terror, violence, and gore. I wouldn't say that it went too astray from that, but I think those kinds of sayings should have been told in extreme modesty. There just wasn't that much to this movie, in the end. Don't know why it was remade.

                  Crazy, Stupid, Love

This movie actually starts off pretty strongly. There are some good jokes and character introductions, and there is quite a lovely cast as well. The "story lines" which I thought would be least interesting actually ended up being very good, and the unraveling developments ended up being pretty well done, in a hilarious manner no less. While watching the film, by style alone (not story), I kind of got a Modern Family vibe out of it. I thought Marisa Tomei stole the show in her scenes, and Ryan Gosling as well as Emma Stone really decided to shine while they were on camera as well.

However, all that being said, I thought the last fifteen minutes were washy, hokey, and completely out of element from what the rest of the film had to offer. I thought the ending was very, very weak, and that they could have done a better job executing the same results in a different fashion.

If anyone ever comes across this post then sees the film, notice the loads of subtle moments when Steve Carell and Julianne Moore keep ripping on their son behind his back about the kind of kid he is. It's hilarious!

Haha I didn't mean it like that. I meant to say, "If anyone ever comes across this post, then sees the film again..." perhaps I shall edit that.

We Need To Talk About Kevin

Tilda Swinton does a fantastic job in the lead roll. You can feel her pain through the screen without her even having to say a word. As a father I found the movie to be unsettling at times. But it was definitely honest look at the thought process of some soon to be parents.

The film may not be for everyone, but I'd suggest checking it out if you have the opportunity.
