Does Scrooged count? Either that or the George C. Scott one.

It was, be depressed while watching movies time so first up is The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

They set you up so nicely for that nut punch. 7.5/10 Side note, Emma Watson, yay.

Next, The Way Way Back- A slightly more upbeat movie that builds you up only to knock you down again. 7/10.

And Finally Skyfall- Still dont get the fuss made over Bond movies 6/10.
Don't you EVER read my blog? It's gotten a lot better.

Perks rates at least an 8 with me. It has some strong, emotional scenes, but I found the movie much more moving than depressing, and the last scene really lifted the tone up. That movie became one of my favorites right away.

Just watched this again the other day. I think Bardem was overhyped unfortunately, but I really do like the film. Mostly because... it's so darn purty!

CR and SF are the most tolerable Bonds for me, though. Casino Royale is one of my favorite movies too (10/10).

New Hobbit Movie - 5/10. Saw this in 3D Imax and the Dragon is AMAZING. The movie was just way too long. Run time of 2 hours, 40 minutes and there are parts where it really drags. It's not that I didn't enjoy myself, it's just there's parts where I really wish I had a fast forward button. Every action scene was the goods though.

Delivery Man - 7/10. Good, light hearted movie with some solid "aww" moments.

We just got back from The Hobbit in 3D and as a movie, I thought it was fantastic. Obviously it doesn't quite cling to the book, so I'm just judging it as a movie.

3D was fantastic, the Dragon was one of the coolest things I've ever seen in a film. Even Mel, who's far from a LotR nerd like I am said she thorougly enjoyed it.

Also, Evangeline Lilly as an elf. What a babe.

I introduced the girl to Super 8 last night, one of my favorites from recent years. She liked it more than I thought she would since she's usually insanely picky about run times, aliens and anything remotely "scary" (she was scared several times, don't ask me how).

I've seen it before but my opinion hasn't changed:

                    Gravity

Thankfully this one is still in theaters. My friend and I have been planning to see this for almost six weeks now, and we finally landed on a date to make it happen. I will admit though that I initially figured this to be one of those movies that teases a spectacle but instead is just a strong cast in an Academy-type film without the awesomeness involved. I'm glad to have been proven wrong from reviewers, OS'ers, and now seeing the film for myself.

Make no mistake, this is definitely one of those films that when somebody says you need to see this in theaters and 3D, they're not joking. It's also one of those rare types that you call it an "experience" more than you do a "movie," and for these reasons this remains in theaters nearly ten weeks after release. Nevertheless, I'm here to critique the movie aspects of it, but I still want to commend the hard work done by everybody involved in this film for capturing the essence of astrophobia in just ninety minutes. Any technical nominations this has at the Oscars should be given to them immediately. Just very well done in that regard.

The movie takes place in "real time," so there isn't ever any scene jumping whatsoever. In fact, also on a technical level, they have a lot of duration shots that really help you feel like you're in the situation with them. I wouldn't be surprised if the first shot of the film was ten minutes long (however, that is not to say they actually had the camera rolling for ten minutes because I'm certain there are a lot of ways around how they did what they did). This kind of becomes a tossup decision because you are provided many moments of subtlety and nothingness, but it was a daring direction done right.

The other thing is you sit and wonder "What else could possibly go wrong?" and somehow it seemingly does. Furthermore, it was refreshing for once to see marketing done right. Flash the actors' names across the screen as you see Bullock unable to grab hold of something and getting lost in space. Nothing else. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to know that teases are just enough sometimes, not showing the whole movie. It was a good thing there was a lot to show. Again, what a well-made film on many levels.

It will have its sore spots in the writing that you might say "Now why didn't they do that?" and I think the director drove hard for a "born again" motif that was a little more in my face than I would have cared for. I never saw this film as very emotional in that I was invested in the characters themselves for their development because there was little, but being that it's a story of survival, they do really well in making you hope that... well... they survive in the end.

Though in the end, I'm glad Gravity was able to steer away from controversial topics and just deliver an experience which, by the way, was very well acted considering there really only were just two actors on screen. I don't know if this experience can translate as well to homes, especially if it's not in 3D. If you just stream this on your laptop, you truly are doing a disservice to those involved in the project. If you haven't yet, try and still catch it in theaters! Hold onto your seat and suck yourself in for a thrill ride that you might not experience in a cinema for a long time again.

Couldn't agree more, Blzer. This is one that must be experienced in theaters, 3D/Imax. I believe it really added to the atmosphere and intensity.

                        X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)

I'll have a full write up on my blog in the overnight but I thought this movie wasn't as bad as I heard about it. Obviously this movie is flawed from a continuity aspect and i'm not just talking about the comics to film but rather the continuity that was established in the original trilogy. First of all somehow Cyclops was among the mutants captured by Stryker/Sabretooth so you'd think he'd have some kind of foreknowledge of Wolvie in the X-Men films. Yes I know no one thought that far ahead but you can't just wedge an established character in there like that. Another inconsistency is Sabretooth himself. In the original films he's all bestial and animalistic whereas here he's very much his own man and has some charm.

I know a lot of these complaints are slightly unreasonable but the writers really should've found a way to wedge things into the continuity of what came before. This is probably why FOX scrapped everything and started over with X-Men First Class.

That being said there's a lot to like about this movie. Jackman and Schrieber are excellent in their roles and I liked the whole competitive brothers aspect. There is a respect between the two even though they want to kill each other as evidenced by a scene in the film's climax where Sabretooth saves Wolvie from Deadpool.

This brings up another excellent aspect of the movie, and that's the action scenes and things like transitions. I've seen some people say the action was a bit "boring" but to me it was pretty rockin' from beginning to end from the scene where Wolverine, Sabretooth and the other mutants gathered by Stryker as a mercenary team go the African blood diamond boss to find an adamatium sample to the scene where Wolverine singlehandedly takes down a chopper and a couple trucks while being hunted by Stryker's men in the middle of the movie it was all very well filmed.

The transitions are quite good and are very comic book like in nature such as when Agent Zero shoots the elderly couple Wolverine was staying at. They show the tray the old lady was holding shot up then she gets it then her husband gets shot and falls into Wolverine's arms and then the camera zooms from the circular hole in the window and zooms quickly to Agent Zero's gun. It's these kind of transitions and seeing things like Deadpool moving around with all the abilities of the other mutants in the film's climax that makes the movie seem like a real live comic book though the latter scene kind of reminded me of a Mortal Kombat game.

I also loved the scene where Wolverine is trying to find out where Sabretooth is and he has to fight Blob in a ring LOL! That was some funny stuff and Will. I. Am was surprisingly good in his limited role as well. I noticed he was wearing a hat that Wolverine used to wear a lot in the comics but alas Wolvie didn't wear it in the movie.

Now I hate to end this on a sour note but man did they ever screw up Deadpool. They had the characterization pretty much spot on when he was just a "normal" person but once he had gone through the Weapon XI program where he had all the other mutants powers and had his mouth sewn shut....Yeesh, yeah that was taking it too far and it just didn't work at all. It just made Deadpool this hollowed out force of nature rather than a person...Actually that kind of works in terms of Stryker's motivations but it just didn't sit well with me.

This movie just seemed like one of those flicks where there's a really great movie inside just waiting to bust out but it's hobbled by its flaws. I mean, jeez, don't get me started on Gambit. I really wanted to punch him out watching this. So I can only give this **

At least it's better than X-Men: The Last Stand.

Hm...Actually I may just post this as my review on the bloggie with some edits.

As far as the continuity issues, Scott couldn't see the whole time, and it's almost 20 years until they see each other again. It's a stretch to think Scott wouldn't put it together, but not a huge one. And as far as Sabertooth, do they ever refer to him as such in this movie? And likewise, in the first film, I don't believe he's ever called Victor. In the comics, Victor Creed = Sabertooth, but not in the movies, I guess. It's another stretch.

As far as starting over, First Class was a prequel, not really a reboot. Characters from the original trilogy aren't done yet.

Good point about Scott. I didn't really think that through but about First Class I think it's a case of being a prequel technically but it seems FOX wants to have its cake and eat it too so I think a lot of what's going on now can be viewed as a retcon. It's not a new thing in the Marvel Movieverse as we've seen a hard reboot/retcon on the Hulk a couple times now.

                                Christmas Vacation
An annual staple in our household. This movie's been out for nearly 25 years and I've seen it at least that many times, and yet, I still find myself laughing at all of the jokes, and I'll even catch a line or two that I may have missed in previous viewings. Chevy Chase is at his peak in this movie, and Randy Quaid's performance is very strong. An absolute must-watch for those that enjoy Christmas-themed movies.
